Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in physical education or a related field.
• Virginia Collegiate Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with appropriate endorsement to teach health and physical education.
• Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Teaches physical fitness, health education, rhythm and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports as designated by the district curriculum.
• Instructs students in citizenship and state-mandated subject matter and procedures.
• Works with other PE teachers to plan and implement a balanced program.
• Develops lesson plans aligned with SOL standards and provides individualized/small-group instruction.
• Maintains standards of student behavior and ensures safety of equipment and facilities.
• Communicates with parents and counselors about student progress.
