Job summary

Pell Elementary School in Newport, Rhode Island, seeks an English Language Learner (ELL) teacher for the 2026/2027 school year. The role focuses on push-in/pull-out instruction for grades K-4 and testing and placement decisions.

You will collaborate with the building principal and the Director of English Learners, develop ELL plans, maintain student data, and engage families to support language acquisition.

Qualifications

• Hold or be eligible for RI Elementary ELL certification (K-6).
• Master's in Elementary Education, TESOL preferred.
• Ability to use technology in teaching and learning.
• Ability to meet diverse student needs and differentiate.
• Completion of Science of Reading Training.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Pell Administration and the Director of English Learners.
• Implement ELL instruction using evidence-based methods for K-4.
• Administer language proficiency tests and monitor student progress.
• Maintain a database of ELL/ELL-eligible students and progress reports.
• Develop ELL plans and support classroom teachers in plan implementation.
• Communicate with parents and engage families about student learning.
• Support differentiated instruction across K–4 classrooms.
• Attend IEP/Section 504 meetings as needed for student assessment.
• Participate in school activities and staff development as required.
• Facilitate ACCESS testing and the WIDA Screener as assigned.
