Job description

General Description and Classification Standards:

The Office of Watershed Protection requires a Project Coordinator with knowledge of stormwater management to support the Division of Environmental Planning with the planning and execution of green infrastructure projects. This is an entry-to junior-level position charged with the responsibility of working with project teams to coordinate green infrastructure and stream restoration projects, support community outreach efforts related to specific projects and initiatives and provide technical assistance in the areas of environmental science, ecology, engineering, natural resource management, urban design, landscape architecture, and/or other applicable fields. This position will assist in preparing watershed compliance reports and supporting regulatory requirements for the City’s NPDES MS4 permit and other related watershed obligations, as well as conduct grant research and support the preparation of grant applications to advance departmental projects.

Supervision Received:

The Project Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the Watershed Manager and obtain additional oversight from the Watershed Director and Environmental Program Coordinators within the Office of Watershed Protection.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Watershed Manager and technical leads with project coordination related to green infrastructure and stream restoration projects.
  • Assist leadership in identifying opportunities for integrating and coordinating watershed improvement or property management activities across Offices and Divisions.
  • Identify grant opportunities and support the preparation of grant applications to advance green infrastructure, watershed protection, and environmental planning projects.
  • Gather, organize, and update community outreach materials to be disseminated to project stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Communications & Community Relations to prepare external communications, including but not limited to presentations, posters, brochures, and signage related to projects or events.
  • Support Project Managers and technical leads with Community Outreach efforts; which may occasionally require attending evening or weekend events.
  • Apply technical knowledge in environmental science, ecology, engineering, landscape architecture, and/or natural resource management to provide departmental resources.
  • Assist with the identification of areas for green infrastructure implementation and other watershed protection activities.
  • Provide technical support for compiling, analyzing, and formatting watershed compliance data, and update tracking systems to ensure all regulatory requirements are accurately maintained.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, ecology, landscape architecture, natural resource management, urban planning, environmental engineering or related field

Experience or coursework related to water quality, stormwater management, and/or green infrastructure

Preferred Requirements:
  • 2+ years of experience working on green infrastructure or natural resources management projects
  • Experience in communications and/or public outreach
Licensures and Certifications:

None required.
