Job summary

Western Veterinary Partners offers veterinary externships across our network of practices in the United States. Students from any year can apply for clinical year externship blocks or informal externship experiences within a WVP practice.

You will work under a supervising veterinarian to gain hands-on experience in practice management, client communication, case histories, and patient care, with opportunities to learn and grow in a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Open to veterinary students in any year.
• Clinical year externship blocks or informal externships with a WVP practice.
• Prior veterinary experience is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Gain real-world experience by working closely with the supervising veterinarian and the clinic team.
• Engage in practice management activities such as client communication, patient histories, and record keeping.

Veterinary Students in any grade can apply for an externship with a WVP Practice as part of their clinical year externship blocks or for informal externship experience.

What You Will Learn

• Working closely with the supervising veterinarian you will gain experience in all areas of practice management including; client communication - gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, reviewing estimates; Ownership of cases by creating treatment plans, diagnostics, managing and performing in house labs; Observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures including dental procedures; and overall medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice learn communication skills, time management skills, fiscal responsibilities, record keeping, and relationship building with the medical team, support staff, and clients.*
