Job summary

Shenandoah Veterinary Hospital in Martinsburg, WV invites 1st–4th year AVMA‑accredited veterinary students to join our extern program. You’ll gain hands-on experience across preventive care, diagnostics, soft-tissue surgery and dentistry with supportive supervision.

We offer flexible scheduling, paid externship hours, DVM mentor network and 1:1 guidance, plus future employment opportunities for high‑performing students in a family‑run, community‑oriented practice.

Established in 1974, we at Shenandoah Veterinary Hospital have been happily serving the needs of the community's pets for nearly 36 years. Founded by K.W. Gilpin D.V.M, our team of veterinary professionals has grown over the years and currently includes seven veterinarians, seven registered veterinary technicians and numerous other support staff. Each staff member contributes knowledge and experience in a variety of companion animal topics. We have team members who are experienced in dealing with all aspects of animal care from highly technical surgical procedures to training and behavioral problems in pets of all ages.

Shenandoah Veterinary Hospital is a family run business with long-term ties to people of the Eastern Panhandle. Dr. Gilpin's family grew up right here in Martinsburg and sons Darin and Brian joined the practice after graduating from veterinary school with a continued commitment of providing outstanding veterinary care for all their friends and neighbors here in Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties and surrounding areas.

We are a 6 doctor, 7 veterinary technician practice and looking for veterinary students to extern with us! We offer preventative care, diagnostic, soft-tissue surgeries, laser therapy, dentistry, in house pharmacy, and more!
