Job summary

Domestic-Violence-Services-of-Southwestern-PA is seeking a Legal Advocate to primarily operate from the Washington Legal Advocacy Office and travel as needed to Washington, Greene, and Fayette County offices.

You will counsel clients, support them through legal processes, and advocate in hearings while staying current on DV laws and procedures. Training, supervision, and a comprehensive benefits package accompany this role.

Qualifications

• Translatable work experience required.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to provide supervision, training, and professional development.
• Collaborate with peers and other departments within the agency.
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Proficient computer, Internet, and email skills.

Responsibilities

• Counsel clients in legal options and expectations; assist in criminal and civil justice processes.
• Accompany clients to hearings and to law enforcement as needed.
• Assist with filings such as Protection From Abuse petitions and advocacy.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of laws and local procedures related to domestic violence.
• Develop and maintain relationships with legal and law enforcement agencies.
• Engage in community outreach and advocacy activities for lethality assessment.
