Job summary

Highgate Hotels’ Hyatt Regency San Francisco Downtown SOMA is seeking an Engineer, Level 1, to oversee overnight maintenance and fix kitchen/refrigeration systems, conduct preventive maintenance, and respond quickly to guest and associate requests. You will work within a collaborative team to ensure minimal disruption and uphold safety standards.

The role requires a High School diploma or equivalent with at least 1 year of hotel maintenance experience; trade school coursework is a plus.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent; experience in a hotel or related field encouraged.
  • At least one year of progressive hotel or related field experience preferred.
  • Trade school and/or college coursework in related field is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Repair kitchen and refrigeration equipment, including preventive maintenance and responding to guest/associate requests and emergencies.
  • Maintain the property to high standards while keeping disruption to guests to a minimum.
  • Communicate effectively with guests and staff and participate in hotel required trainings.

Overview

The Engineer, Level 1, is responsible for ensuring that the property is maintained in the best possible condition at all times with the least amount of inconvenience to customers and employees. Will be primarily working overnight with areas of focus in repairing kitchen and refrigeration equipment including PM and responding to guest/Associate requests and emergencies.

Responsibilities

Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and/or experience in a hotel or a related field required.
  • At least one year of progressive experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
  • Trade school and/or College course work in related field helpful.

Physical requirements:

  • Flexible and long hours sometimes required.
  • Heavy work - Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objectsMaintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.

  • Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must be able to understand and apply complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
  • Must be able to cross-train in other hotel related areas.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Must be able to show initiative, including anticipating guest or operational needs.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
Qualifications
  • Make repairs to hotel air conditioning system: change filters, clean coils, replace motors.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all equipment (i.e. boilers, chillers, HVAC-Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning, electrical, etc.).
  • Take required readings on equipment.
  • Test cooling tower and record readings.
  • Replace and program televisions as needed.
  • Replace light switches, receptacles, light bulbs and fixtures.
  • Perform furniture repair.
  • Replace and repair pumps.
  • Perform plumbing repairs (i.e. clogged drains, copper pipe, change washers, change handles, drain fittings, etc).
  • Understand and be able to read blueprints and wiring diagrams.
  • Trace and repair all types of water lines.
  • Troubleshoot and repair kitchen equipment.
  • Maintain repair and preventive maintenance records.
  • Perform and maintain work to local, state and Federal codes.
  • Test, clean and repair swimming pools and spas.
  • Paint designated areas.
  • Repair and finish sheet rock.
  • Repair all types of wall coverings.
  • Repair and program hotel electronic lock system.

  • 6 days or 48 hours of Paid Sick Leave per year, accrued at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.

For Employees Based in California:

  • 8 paid holidays per year
  • Up to 20 days of paid vacation per year, based on classification and length of service, capped at 1.5x annual accrual rate; non-supervisory employees working in the City of Los Angeles accrue up to 22 days of Compensated Time Off, based on length of service capped at 192 hours of combined PST and CTO.
  • Paid Sick Time accrues at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, unused time is carried over from one anniversary year to the next up to a maximum of 80 hours; employees working in the City of Los Angeles are provided 40 hours of Paid Sick Time annually on their anniversary, unused time is not carried over from one anniversary year to the next.
