Job summary

Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA, seeks a Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Coordinator to connect care teams, patients, and suppliers in fast-moving healthcare environments. The role ensures patients leave with the equipment and support needed for safe recovery.

You will coordinate authorizations, communicate patient needs to suppliers and case managers, ensure documentation meets payer and regulatory standards, and help identify gaps to improve access and timeliness of equipment delivery.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with suppliers, payers, and internal stakeholders to facilitate authorizations and resolve coverage barriers that may delay equipment delivery
• Communicate patient needs to suppliers and external case managers
• Provide clear, practical guidance on interactions between suppliers and patients/families
• Ensure all documentation meets payer, compliance, and regulatory standards
• Advocate for patient choice and serve as a central liaison between patients, families, suppliers, payers, case managers, and clinical teams to facilitate timely access to prescribed equipment
• Provide timely updates regarding equipment status, barriers, and anticipated delivery timelines to clinical and case management teams
• Participate in team meetings and ongoing education
• Identify gaps and inefficiencies and propose practical solutions
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA and organizational standards
• Other duties as assigned

The Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Coordinator is highly resourceful, and thrives in fast-moving, unpredictable healthcare environments. This role is a key connector between internal care teams, patients, and suppliers—often navigating complex, time-sensitive situations where success depends on the ability to solve problems in real time, anticipate barriers, and drive positive outcomes with limited direction. The DME Coordinator plays a direct role in ensuring patients leave Shepherd Center with the equipment and support they need to continue their recovery safely.
