Job summary

Building Connections Academy in Martinez, CA is seeking a Substitute Special Education Teacher / Paraprofessional for a dual-role position. The substitute role pays $30-$35 per hour when covering as a teacher, while the paraprofessional rate is $22-$28 per hour when not needed for teaching duties.

Both roles support K-8 students with disabilities, follow IEPs, and collaborate with BCBAs, teachers, and other staff to maintain a structured, inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Clear DOJ/FBI background check.
• Valid California substitute teaching permit or credential permitted by CCTC.
• RBT certification or willingness to obtain within 90 days.
• Experience or interest in working with children with disabilities.
• Ability to follow IEPs, accommodations, and classroom procedures.
• Patience, flexibility, dependability, and compassion.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
• Immunizations including MMR, Tdap, Varicella, Hep B, and TB clearance.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom instruction and supervision during teacher absences.
• Follow lesson plans, schedules, routines, and instructional expectations.
• Implement IEP goals, accommodations, and supports as directed.
• Provide instructional support across academic, social, emotional, behavioral domains.
• Implement evidence-based strategies and adapt activities for diverse learners.
• Follow Behavior Intervention Plans and safety procedures.
• Collect and document student data and observations.
• Guide paraprofessionals and behavior staff to maintain routines and programming.
• Support communication, self-care, and daily living skills.
• Maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment and student engagement.
• Communicate classroom information and concerns to administrators and teachers.
• Maintain student confidentiality and comply with policies.
