Position
- Title: Kayak Pittsburgh Boathouse Crew Member
- Reports To: Kayak Pittsburgh Management
- Location: Kayak Pittsburgh Downtown, 1000 Fort Duquesne Blvd. Pittsburgh, PA 15222
- Hours: Seasonal part‑time (approximately 20-30 hours/week April through October)
- Wage: $12.00/hour
Position Summary
Boathouse Crew Members assist in fast‑paced customer service for the Venture Outdoors/Kayak Pittsburgh rental locations, generally open from May‑October. During daily operations crew members will manage the front desk, check customers in and out, manage reservations, phone calls, and other customer inquiries. Crew members may also work in the materials distribution area, providing safety talks and paddling instructions. Candidates may work in both desk and dock roles and can work at multiple Kayak Pittsburgh locations.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Greet arriving customers as they check in for their rental of non‑motorized watercraft.
- Operate the point of sale system, manage reservations, and securely process payments.
- Assist customers with fishing equipment such as rods, reels, tackle, bait, nets, and safety gear.
- Provide information about rentals, Downtown Pittsburgh, and Venture Outdoors.
- Monitor and answer the Kayak Pittsburgh phone throughout the day.
- Fit customers with proper paddling equipment while conveying safety and paddling instructions before they head to the dock.
- Ensure participants’ safety and complete satisfaction.
- Clean rental facilities and materials.
- Learn and follow all Venture Outdoors policies and guidelines.
- Attend biweekly staff meetings.
Qualifications
We recognize that all experience is unique and not always in a professional setting. Outdoor experience obtained recreationally or through volunteer opportunities is valid.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Willingness to be flexible with work schedules.
- Previous customer service experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to act in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
Requirements
- At least 16 years of age, no maximum age.
- Applicants under 18 must provide a legal work permit.
- Obtain PA State Act 34/151 background clearance before employment.
- Must be available to work evenings, holidays, and weekends.
- Must complete mandatory onboarding trainings (some can be completed virtually and are paid after hiring).
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work sites.

Pay Range
