Job summary

Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) is seeking a Direct Support Professional IV for the Corpus Christi State Supported Living Center. The role focuses on scheduling housing teams, coordinating mealtime programs, and ensuring proper staffing across homes.

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) IV: Residential Scheduler/Mealtime Program Coordinator reports to the Director of Residential Services (DRS). The DSP IV: Residential Scheduler/MTC Program Coordinator works closely with the DRS to ensure the Mealtime Coordination Process is followed, which includes the training, observation, data collection and review, and presentation of the Mealtime Coordination process. Works closely with the DRS to ensure residential master schedules are complete, accurate, and coverage of each home is met. The DSP IV Residential Scheduler/MTC Program Coordinator is responsible for the oversight of all training activities to ensure staff are appropriately oriented and trained. May serve as a liaison between the training department and residential units. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

This position is required to drive a state-owned vehicle.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
  • Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Arranges and provides oversight work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and staff/individual ratios are appropriate.
  • Attends meetings, serves on committee, and performs other specific tasks when directed by the Director of Residential Services, ADoP, or facility Director.
  • Ensure residential staff are current with facility and agency core and specialty competency-based training, which includes orientation, refresher, and local training requirements.
  • Ensures residential staff complete post-orientation (on-the-job) training in the residential setting, when needed, and completes required documentation.
  • Maintains residential employee training letters.
  • Conduct competency-based training of staff; monitoring programs; monitoring availability, condition, and proper use of assistive equipment; and ensuring appropriate availability and condition of PNMP instructions and illustrations during mealtimes
  • Provide new employee orientation and refresher training as indicated and will provide direct training of new employees with specific individuals served in mealtime procedures
  • Ensure that the dining room is maintained as a safe and sanitary environment for individuals in the unit
  • Monitors meals and snacks to ensure safe eating practices.
  • Reviews data, conducts audits and inter-rater, and analyzes data by utilizing the SSLC Monitoring and Tracking System (MATS) for presentation of the mealtime program to QA/QI Committee.
  • Plans, assigns and supervises work of others during mealtime of the homes
  • Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications

Valid Texas driver's license or ability to obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date, is required. Applicants with an out-of-state driver's license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.

Initial Screening Criteria

High school diploma or GED is preferred.

Two (2) years’ experience working in the field related to this position (working with people with developmental or physical disabilities).

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/ Entities (LEIE).

All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
