Brief Job Description

The DSP IV – Campus/Shift Coordinator oversees shift activities, monitors facility operations, and ensures adequate staff coverage. The position coordinates care delivery, provides staff training, and serves as the first responder for emergencies. Intermittent overtime and work on nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Essential Job Functions
  • Attend work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, an extended shift or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy.
  • Ensure adequate facility coverage and staff/individual ratios, moving staff as needed and reassigning them to non‑contact positions per policy.
  • Communicate staffing issues to administrators and facilitate calling in additional staff when necessary.
  • Monitor homes, infirmary, activity centers, and grounds, promptly addressing unusual occurrences, emergencies, and incidents.
  • Document findings, compose reports, and communicate concerns to the appropriate administrator.
  • Observe and monitor staff conduct during campus rounds; provide on‑the‑job coaching and in‑services to improve performance.
  • Serve as the contact person for abuse/neglect allegations and as the first responder at a critical incident.
  • Monitor and document restraints, and may be required to participate in restraint procedures.
  • Cooperate with administrative and supervisory staff to conduct special audits, reviews, and monitoring of service delivery.
  • When required, serve as a home supervisor for a unit due to prolonged vacancy, performing supervisory duties and program evaluation.
  • Attend meetings, serve on committees, and perform other supervisory tasks as directed.
  • Assist in transporting individuals to scheduled activities and in emergency situations.
  • Participate in disaster response/COOP activation as needed, which may require alternate shift patterns or locations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of individual care techniques and treatment/programs for developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of facility policies, procedures, basic scheduling techniques, and coverage strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sound judgment and effective decision making in critical incidents.
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to communicate overtime needs and secure staff buy‑in.
  • Calm, quick response in emergencies.
  • Capacity to train staff in job‑related subjects.
  • Proficiency in basic care techniques and first aid/CPR.
  • Physical ability to perform direct contact duties and conduct rounds over a wide area.
Registrations, Licensure, and Certifications

Valid Texas driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire. Applicants with out‑of‑state licenses must provide an original certified driving record. Driver’s license is required for state‑owned vehicle operation.

Initial Screening Criteria
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health issues, or physical disabilities.
  • Experience in a lead or supervisory role.
Additional Information

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, a pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and HHS LEIE. Males aged 18–25 must register with Selective Service. All employees are subject to random drug testing.

Flexibility in work hours, including overtime, extended hours, weekends, and holidays, is required. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
