Job summary

BuildAbility is seeking a Community Guide to support adults with developmental disabilities in a 100% community-based day program in North Hollywood. You’ll meet participants each morning and guide daily activities, including safe use of public transportation.

The role emphasizes building social skills, self‑regulation, and pre‑vocational training through hands‑on coaching and observation, with progress logged in BuildAbility’s digital program. Part‑time hours and competitive pay apply.

Qualifications

• Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Must pass a DOJ Live Scan fingerprinting background clearance.
• Proof of a passing physical exam and TB clearance.
• Valid Driver’s License, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Meeting participants at a community hub each morning, and facilitating the scheduled activities for the day, including the use of public transportation.
• Providing opportunities for the participants to develop socialization/interpersonal communication skills and practice self‑regulation/coping techniques.
• Providing hands-on training, observation, and evaluation of the participant’s pre‑vocational skills, and finding educational opportunities or classes to assist with further development.
• Advocating for participants’ inclusion in the community and empowering them to exercise their rights.
• Using BuildAbility’s digital program to log the individual’s progress and performance.

Our Community Day Services:

• This is our 100% community‑based day program serving adults withdevelopmental disabilities. This program focuses on pre‑vocational skills, safe use of public transportation, social skills practice, and exploration of individual interests.

As a Community Guide, you will be responsible for:

• Meeting participants at a community hub each morning, and facilitating the scheduled activities for the day, including the use of public transportation.
• Providing opportunities for the participants to develop socialization/interpersonal communication skills and practice self‑regulation/coping techniques.

Schedule:

• Part‑time (27 hours a week)
• Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Compensation:

• Starting at $19.00 - $23.00/hour (depending on prior experience and qualifications)

Required Qualifications:

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with individuals with disabilities, their family members, employers, and others in a positive and constructive manner.
• Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
• High school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Fluent in Spanish.
• Cultural awareness and adaptability.
• Familiarity with the Los Angeles Metro system (MetroGo app, route planning, etc.).
• Crisis management skills.
• Prior experience supporting individuals with disabilities. If you don’t have experience, we will provide on‑the‑job training.
