Job summary

Horizon Project, Inc. is seeking compassionate caregivers to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Day Support, Community Living, and Job Coaching services.

No prior experience is required, pay scales from $16 to $18.50 per hour with an extra $1 per hour for job coaching, and a 40-hour workweek from 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday–Friday, with occasional evenings or weekends. Position requires driving, use of company vehicle, and adherence to safety and background checks;

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must pass pre-employment drug test.
• Must pass pre-employment driving records screening.
• Must maintain a clean driving record during employment (Driving Required Position).
• Must have a valid driver’s license insurable by company provider.
• Must pass a pre-employment background check by Oregon DHS.
• Background check renewal every 3 years or as required.
• Must communicate effectively in English.

Responsibilities

• Plan activities that meet clients’ personal goals.
• Take clients on community outings to events like the fair or bowling.
• Use company vehicle for client transportation.
• Teach job skills and help clients obtain employment.
• Support clients at their jobs (job coaching) to ensure success.
• Assist with personal cares and hygiene tasks as needed.
• Administer medications as directed and documented.
• Collaborate with team to manage multiple clients.
• Document medications and daily activities on a computer.
• Maintain and use adaptive equipment such as wheelchairs and walkers.

Horizon Project is a nonprofit that provides care and support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We're looking for compassionate caregivers that will help clients participating in Day Support services, Community Living services, and Job Coaching services. No prior experience or certifications are required, but experience may be considered when determining starting pay.

Pay Scale: $16 - $18.50 depending on experience.

+$1 per hour when job coaching with a client.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8AM-4PM (40 hrs per week)

**occasional weekend or evening hours are required**

Essential Responsibilities and Duties include:

• Plan fun activities for clients that meet their personal goals
• Take clients on community outings to the fair or bowling alley
• Use a company vehicle for client transportation
• Teach job skills to clients and help them get a job
• Support clients at their job (job coaching) so they can be successful
• Help clients go to the bathroom, shower/bathe, and brush their teeth
• Administer client medications
• Remain on task in a busy or chaotic environment
• Support multiple clients at once (example: There may be 5 DSPs supporting a room with 10+ clients)
• Use a computer to document client medication and daily activities
• Maintain adaptive equipment like wheelchairs and walkers
• Work as a team to complete job duties and support the clients

Important Skills:

• Strong communication in English (reading, writing, speaking)

Requirements

• Must be over the age of 18 years old
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test
• Must pass a pre-employment driving records screening (Driving Required Position)
• Must maintain a clean driving record during your employment (Driving Required Position)
• Must have a valid driver's license that is insurable by HPI's auto insurance provider (Driving Required Position)
• Must pass a pre-employment background check by Oregon DHS
• Must maintain a clean background check (background check renewed every 3 years, or more frequently as dictated by ODHS)
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English

Physical Demands

Position is active in nature. Must be able to monitor and observe the activities of program participants. Regularly move about or position self to supervise and interact with participants at their level. Occasionally lift, transport, position, push/pull or move up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques. Must be sufficiently mobile and possess a range of motion to perform repetitive standing, walking, balancing, stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, sitting on the floor, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and twisting. Ability to react quickly to the physical actions of program participant. Administrative and supervisory activities will require ability to operate keyboard-driven equipment. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Sufficiently mobile to attend activities and meetings within the Umatilla County. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
