The Special Commitment Center (SCC) within the Behavioral Health & Habilitation Administration (BHHA) is seeking a Primary Care Physician.

Our goal is to hire a compassionate and dynamic Physician who is comfortable working in an inpatient setting. Doctors at SCC become part of a closely-knit team of healthcare professionals who ensure that patients receive the best care possible. Working closely with multiple disciplines, you'll have an influential voice related to the physical and medical needs of the individuals we serve. You’ll provide medical assessment and treatment in partnership with a dedicated team that views care with a holistic approach.

Monday – Thursday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. SCC employees also receive an additional $10 per day premium pay in addition to advertised salary and a free ORCA card for transportation use. Ferry transportation is provided to McNeil Island employees.

Some of what you'll do:

  • Serve as a primary care physician for residents needing health care
  • Examine patients for physical and behavioral health issues
  • Direct, review, and provide primary medical evaluation, diagnosis, prescribe and administer treatment services to patients with acute and chronic medical conditions
  • Attend to residents’ medical care needs on a scheduled and urgent need basis
  • Share Physician on-call duties during the day and call duties after administrative hours and weekends
  • Perform physical examinations, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests
  • Formulate new medical treatment plans, develop and maintain standards of care.
  • Review medical histories, diagnostic tests, past and current medications
  • Assess and treat the onset of new medical issues
  • Direct a multidisciplinary therapeutic and clinical approach to treat complex physical, psychological, and psychosocial conditions.
  • Make diagnostic and treatment recommendations and coordinating referrals to team members as specialty consultants
  • Maintain records and make reports evaluating the progress of patients; prepares and presents reports on medical-surgical unit;
  • Deliver emergency medical responses and mortality reviews

Who should apply?

  • Valid license to practice medicine and surgery in the State of Washington or ability to obtain Licensure by the start of employment
  • Completion of the residency program
  • Experience in the practice of medicine, preferably working with the behavioral health population
  • Eligible for certification from a program accredited by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
