Your resume and cover letter, tailored to exactly what they’re hiring for.
The State of Washington's Department of Social and Health Services is seeking an IT Quality Assurance Specialist to test financial applications and ensure readiness for One Washington and Workday transitions. You will design test scenarios, collaborate with developers and analysts, and document defects to prevent production issues.
In an Agile environment, you’ll adapt as requirements change, validate data, and support user acceptance testing and production-readiness reviews.
A software change isn't ready until someone has tested what could go wrong. As an IT Quality Assurance Specialist with the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), you'll test financial application changes supporting Washington's One Washington and Workday transition. Your work helps prevent errors that could disrupt financial transactions, reporting, and agency operations. You'll look beyond whether a feature works to understand when it might fail. Working with developers and business analysts, you'll turn requirements into test scenarios, examine results, and document defects. Testing happens throughout development, so you'll need to adapt as requirements change and help the team determine when a solution is ready.
We encourage you to apply if you're curious about how systems behave and enjoy finding problems others miss. You can design meaningful tests, explain defects clearly, and work collaboratively in an Agile environment. You understand that quality starts with knowing what a systems is supposed to do.
Your first 90 days are about learning the applications, business requirements, and testing tools. You'll begin developing test cases, investigating results, and working with developers to resolve defects.
Within your first year, success means application changes have been thoroughly tested, requirements are met, and risks are identified before production.
The opportunity comes with a defined timeline. This is a one-year project position, with a possible extension dependent on additional funding. You'll work Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with at least two days each week at Office Building 2 during your first three months. No additional travel is expected. The Olympia area offers access to Puget Sound, parks, and trails, alongside wet winters and commuting considerations.
The Department of Social and Health Services’ (DSHS) vision that people find human services to shape their own lives requires that we come together with a sense of belonging, common purpose, shared values, and meaningful work. It is crucial to our agency’s vision that you bring a fairness, access, and social justice commitment to your work with DSHS. We strive to support all Washingtonians, including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, people with physical, behavioral health, and intellectual disabilities, elders, LGBTQIA+ individuals, immigrants and refugees, and families building financial security.
