Job summary

Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake, WA is seeking a Security Guard 2 to maintain a safe and secure environment for staff, patients and visitors. You will patrol the campus by vehicle and on foot, respond to incidents, de-escalate crises and enforce hospital rules and policies.

This position features a 24-hour work week with a majority of night shifts and a shift differential; on-site work three days a week may qualify for additional premium pay.

Additional Information
  • Work is 24 hours per week - 80% is night shift; Work shift Friday - Monday with Tuesday and Thursday as regular days off
  • Evening and night shifts also include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate
  • Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary

What We're Looking For
  • Knowledge of safety protocols, fire hazards, and emergency response procedures within an institutional setting.
  • Ability to enforce rules, regulations, and policies while managing security situations effectively.
  • Skilled in supervising, leading, and training security personnel to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear reports and provide instructions.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies, diffuse conflicts, gather evidence, and assist law enforcement and emergency responders.
Who should apply?
Applicants Who Meet One Of The Following Criteria
  • One year of experience as a Security Guard 1.
  • High school diploma or GED and two years of experience in security, corrections, store investigations, law enforcement, military police, or similar roles.
  • A certificate of completion in a basic law enforcement training program approved by the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission, or a certificate of completion in a police or reserve police academy or military training program, which will substitute for one year of the required experience.

A valid driver's license is required.

  • As provided in WAC 357-58-175, an employer may authorize a lump-sum accrual of vacation leave or accelerate the vacation leave accrual rate to support the recruitment and/or retention of a candidate or employee for a Washington Management Service position. Vacation leave accrual rates may only be accelerated using the rates established WAC 357-31-165.
  • Most agencies follow the civil service rules covering leave and holidays for exempt employees even though there is no requirement for them to do so. However, agencies are required to adhere to the applicable RCWs pertaining holidays and leave.
  • Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year.
  • Most employees whose family member or household member dies, or for loss of pregnancy, are entitled to five (5) days of paid bereavement leave. In addition, the employer may approve other available leave types for the purpose of bereavement leave.
