Let's start with the pay. Drivers average about $1,570 a week, which comes to roughly $81,674 a year. Pay is activity-based and built around points per mile, and the check lands weekly.

Here's how the week goes. You'll run about two trips a day, with backhauls bringing you back to the regional hubs, covering roughly 1,175 miles a week. Routes reach California, Nevada (including Reno and Las Vegas) and Arizona. After a standard 70-hour workweek, you get a guaranteed 34-hour reset at home.

The operation runs 24/7, so weekends and holidays are part of the schedule. Go in knowing that, and it won't surprise you.

You’ll haul both dry van and refrigerated trailers, in modern, well-maintained automatic sleepers.
