Safeway Driving School in Minnesota is hiring a full-time, on-site Behind the Wheel Driving Instructor for our Minneapolis/St. Paul area. You will provide one-on-one in-car lessons to teen students, teach safe driving techniques, traffic laws, and defensive driving.

No teaching experience required—paid training is provided. Must be 21+, hold a valid U.S. driver's license for at least 3 years, and maintain a clean driving record.

The school offers both classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel lessons for teen drivers at multiple convenient locations. Role Description:

This full-time, on-site Behind the Wheel Driving Instructor role is based in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN. The instructor will provide one-on-one in-car driving lessons to teen students, teaching safe driving techniques, traffic laws, and defensive driving practices. Daily responsibilities include assessing student skill levels, planning lesson routes, providing clear instructions and feedback, and documenting student progress. The role also involves communicating with students and families in a professional manner, reinforcing classroom learning during practical lessons, and ensuring the training vehicle is used and maintained safely according to company policies.

Must be 21 or older with a valid U.S. driver’s license for at least 3 years.

Must not have Gross Misdemeanors, Felonies, or DUI/DWI.

No teaching experience required — we provide paid training.

Ideal for those comfortable being on the road and working independently.

Qualifications:

• Ability to effectively teach and demonstrate safe driving techniques
• Possession of, or eligibility for, a valid driver’s license
• Strong Communication skills, including clear verbal instruction and active listening, to guide students of varying experience levels.
• Customer Service skills to interact respectfully and supportively with students, families, and school staff.
• Clean driving record and adherence to all state and local traffic laws.
• Prior experience in driver education, teaching, coaching, or training is preferred.
• Ability to remain calm, patient, and safety-focused in a variety of driving situations.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education or relevant certifications in driver instruction are a plus.

Work Hours:

• Full Time: 30-40 hours per week.
• School Year: Weekdays 12 PM–10 PM, Saturdays 6 AM–10 PM.
• Summer: Monday–Saturday 6 AM–10 PM.
• Closed Sundays year-round.

Licensing and Training:

• We help you prepare for and pass two state exams (written and road test.)
