Job summary

Veolia North America is seeking a dedicated CDL-A driver to safely transport hazardous and non-hazardous materials from customer sites to designated facilities. You will ensure packaging meets DOT specs, inspect paperwork and permits, and follow all DOT/EPA/state regulations and Veolia policies.

Responsibilities include vehicle inspections, reviewing shipment records, maintaining logs and paperwork, and assisting with loading/unloading at sites.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Class A CDL with Hazmat endorsement required.
  • DOT medical certification required; other CDL endorsements as needed.
  • HAZWOPER 40-hour training required; willingness to obtain further endorsements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily vehicle/trailer inspections prior to driving.
  • Review shipment records, manifests, container labeling and cargo security.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT requirements (weight limits, logs, permits).
  • Coordinate with customers on load conditions and paperwork accuracy.
  • Report any incidents or violations to supervisor.
  • Assist with loading/unloading at designated sites using proper equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and perform minor maintenance as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Position Purpose:


Responsible for safely transporting hazardous and non-hazardous materials from the customer site to the
appropriate designated sites using van trailers, straight trucks, flatbeds, tankers, roll-off frames, or other waste
carrying equipment. Ensures that the condition of the material packaging meets the U.S. Department of
Transportation (DOT) specifications, inspects manifests and shipping paperwork for accuracy, and maintains
current transportation permits for all areas traveled. Abides by all regulations set forth by DOT, EPA, state and
local governments, and VES-TS policies and procedures.


Primary Duties/responsibilities:



  • Perform daily inspections of vehicle and/or trailer prior to driving to ensure the safety and integrity
    of equipment destined to designated sites.

  • Prior to transporting materials reviews shipment records, manifests, container labeling, container
    integrity, vehicle placards, and cargo security of loaded drums, roll-off boxes or bulk tankers.

  • Ensure that DOT requirements such as load weight limits, driver log books, Vehicle Inspection
    Records, transportation permits, insurance cards, fuel trip reports, IFTA fuel stickers, or other paperwork is up to date and valid.

  • Consults with customers pertaining to load conditions, drum counts or paperwork inconsistencies
    to ensure that materials can be properly transported to designated site(s).

  • Notify immediate supervisor of any moving violations and/or accidents in-route to and/or from sites.

  • Assist in the loading/unloading of materials at designated sites utilizing appropriate equipment.

  • Responsible for assisting with housekeeping as required.

  • Ability to perform small maintenance repairs

  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background:



  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required

  • Prior commercial driving experience required


Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:



  • Knowledge of DOT regulations pertaining to the transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous materials

  • Strong team player

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to manage time effectively (i.e. route, daily logs, etc.)

  • Ability to work independently without supervision.

  • Strong customer service skills


Required Certification / Licenses / Training:



  • Valid Class A Commercial Driving License (CDL) required

  • Hazmat (H) endorsement required

  • Other CDL endorsements as required (i.e. tanker, air brakes, etc.)

  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER training required

  • Valid DOT Medical Certification
