Job summary

DATTCO, INC is seeking a Driver/Trainer to transport students and train drivers in Connecticut. The role requires a CDL Class B with P and S endorsements, plus strong safety and communication skills. You will perform inspections, follow district procedures, and contribute to the safety program.

Ideal candidates are at least 21, have 3+ years driving experience, and can complete screenings and background checks. This position emphasizes training and youth transport across school districts.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Must have at least three consecutive years of driving experience with a valid driver’s license.
• Must meet Connecticut DMV, school district, and DATTCO eligibility standards.
• Must possess a valid CDL Class B with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
• Must meet DOT/FMCSA medical qualification standards.
• Must successfully complete pre-employment screening including fingerprinting and background checks.
• Must participate in DOT/FMCSA and/or state drug and alcohol testing as applicable.
• Must communicate clearly in speech.
• Must present a professional appearance.
• Preferred: State Certified Instructor.

Driver/Trainer (Certified and Experienced)

Primary Responsibilities

• Driver
  • Safely transport students to and from school on assigned routes.
  • Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report safety or maintenance concerns.
  • Follow all traffic laws, designated routes, railroad crossing procedures, student pick-up/drop-off procedures, and school district safety requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly environment for students while operating the bus.
  • Communicate professionally with students, parents/guardians, school staff, transportation supervisors, and safety personnel.
  • Complete all required safety training, drills, continuing education, and compliance requirements under Connecticut DMV, FMCSA/DOT, school district, and DATTCO policies.
• Trainer
  • Communicate, mentor, and train drivers to ensure compliance with all federal, state and company regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Conduct behind the wheel and classroom pre-service/in-service training.
  • Conduct post-accident retraining as needed.
  • Conduct driver evaluations and proficiency review as required by regulations and company policies.
  • Provide ongoing input to Director of Safety regarding changes to improve the Driver Training Program.
  • Document progress and results of drivers pre-service/in-service training.
  • Lead by example with all safety issues and be an active supporter and member of the company safety program and its initiatives.
  • Responsible for complying with all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with all federal & state requirements.
  • Be available for work during the summer and school vacations.

Position Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Must have at least three consecutive years of driving experience with a valid driver’s license.
• Must have an acceptable driving record and meet Connecticut DMV, school district, and DATTCO eligibility standards.
• Must possess, a valid Connecticut CDL Class B with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
• Must meet DOT/FMCSA medical qualification standards, including the physical qualification standards in 49 CFR Part 391, and maintain a valid DOT medical certificate as required.
• Must successfully complete all required pre-employment screening, including fingerprinting, state and national criminal background checks, registry checks, driving record review, drug testing, and any other screenings required by law, Connecticut DMV, school district policy, or DATTCO policy.
• Must participate in DOT/FMCSA and/or state-required random drug and alcohol testing programs as applicable to CDL school bus drivers.
• Must complete and maintain all required Connecticut DMV school bus training, proficiency, road test, annual/in-service training, safety drills, and continuing education requirements.
• Must be able to verbally communicate in a clear, concise manner
• Must present a professional appearance
