Job summary

Waste Management in the United States is seeking a Driver Trainer responsible for developing and delivering training programs for drivers, and for assessing adherence to driving standards. You will transfer expertise to drivers and ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and WM policies while promoting safe operating practices.

Job description

Salary $65,000 - $78,000 Monday - Friday 4am Start; 8-11/hr shifts


The Driver Trainer develops and implements training for drivers, and performs assessments to ensure adherence to driving standards.


II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Trains and coaches new and existing drivers on use of applicable tools, equipment, and in fundamental routing practices; transfers expertise to drivers.

  • Develops and delivers training to new and existing drivers on OSHA, DOT, and WM policies and driving standards.

  • Trains and coaches the High Risk Employees / Repeaters Plan, ensuring aggressive, constructive intervention with employees immediately following first safety incident.

  • Re-trains after accidents, near misses, and/or negative observations.

  • Schedules and conducts Observation Behavior Assessments (OBA's) to evaluate driver knowledge, operating behaviors, and compliance with federal regulations.

  • Follows-up observations with constructive coaching and retraining when deficiencies are observed.

  • Conducts employee interviewing, testing, hiring and evaluation. Plans and conducts new employee orientation.

  • Investigates, reviews and controls implementation of safety regulations and company policies and procedure and monitors for compliance.

  • Assists investigations of accidents and emergency spills.


III. Qualifications

A. Required Qualifications


  • 4 years of previous experience and at least 1 year in a driver position (in addition to education requirements) and

  • Must be 21 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located and

  • Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports and

  • Successfully complete pre-employment screening, including drug screen and physical

  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A


B. Preferred Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or G.E.D (accredited)
