Job summary

Dairy Farmers of America seeks a Supervisor to oversee drivers and hauling activities at the DFA terminal. You will promote safety, customer service, and operational excellence while coordinating with multiple DFA locations and providing leadership to the team.

The role requires 5 years in distribution/transportation with leadership experience; a CDL-A license and tanker endorsement are required, with on-call duties and travel within the territory as needed.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Receive dispatch information and create hauling plans assigning drivers and equipment.
  • Create employee schedules, approve time, monitor overtime and payroll issues.
  • Coordinate with other DFA locations to support special needs.
  • Establish relationships with DFA members and producers for service.
  • Oversee milk sampling process and laboratory shipments.
  • Ensure daily paperwork is scanned and filed per retention rules.
  • Coach employees to meet performance goals and conduct driver audits.
  • Promote safety culture and investigate incidents with safety personnel.
  • Collaborate with HR on recruitment, coaching, and training.
  • Coordinate with maintenance to keep equipment in good condition.
  • Maintain highest safety standards and leave worksite in good condition.
  • Demonstrate DFA values of honesty, discretion and judgement.
  • Comply with DFA Quality, Safety, and GMP policies and training.
  • Be available for emergencies and on-call rotations.

Job description

General Purpose

Supervise assigned drivers and hauling activities at the DFA terminal. Develop and promote safety, customer service, and operational excellence.

Pay Range

$80,000 to $90,000 based on experience. The role requires travel to other locations within the territory as needed to assist and oversee operations.

Hours

8:00 am – 6:00 pm

Shift

Sunday – Thursday + on‑call as needed

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Receive information from dispatch to create and execute hauling plans by assigning drivers and equipment to routes. Continuously monitor daily operations to make necessary adjustments and communicate effectively with members, drivers, and dispatch.
  • Create employee schedules, approve time, resolve payroll/time‑keeping issues, monitor overtime, and take appropriate actions to meet established goals.
  • Work closely with other DFA transportation locations and reconfigure driver assignments to support special or critical needs.
  • Establish working relationships with DFA members on assigned farms to understand producer facilities and equipment to ensure optimal service.
  • Manage the milk sampling process, including collection, proper driver handling, and laboratory shipment packing, to maintain sample integrity. Coordinate with drivers, DFA member services, producers, and laboratory personnel to resolve issues and facilitate additional sample collection as needed.
  • Own the process to ensure all daily paperwork for each load is scanned and/or sent to the designated location for filing per retention requirements. Maintain information for quality control and billing purposes through systems.
  • Ensure employees achieve performance expectations through training/coaching; conduct routine driver audits for safety, operational efficiency, PMO, and DOT compliance; and complete employee annual reviews.
  • Promote a safety culture by adhering to safety procedures and company safety policy. Conduct investigations and work on corrective actions for employee accidents and safety concerns in conjunction with safety personnel.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to address driver counseling, disciplinary actions, new employee recruitment, behavior improvement, and training and development programs.
  • Collaborate with maintenance leadership to ensure assigned equipment is maintained properly.
  • Dedicate effort to safety by expecting every employee to leave work in the same condition as they arrived.
  • Exhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Adhere to all DFA Quality, Safety, and GMP policies and report any nonconformity.
  • Attend required training, including but not limited to Safety, GMP, DOT, and PMO.
  • Ensure availability to respond to emergencies or other unexpected operational requirements (e.g., nights, weekends, or holidays). Participate in on‑call rotation.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 5 years of distribution, logistics, and/or transportation experience, including 2 years in an official lead capacity
  • Certification and/or license required
  • CDL‑A license required; if not current, must be obtained within 180 days
  • Class A commercial driver’s license in state of residence
  • Must be able to obtain a tanker endorsement within 180 days of employment
  • Must be able to obtain doubles or triples endorsement as required
  • Must be able to obtain a state‑issued milk sampler/hauler license
  • Other certifications and/or licenses may be required and must be maintained for continued employment
