Job summary

Paylocity is seeking a school transportation driver to safely move students to and from school and activities in a 15-passenger van. You will follow established schedules, communicate with parents, and maintain accurate records while upholding all safety requirements.

Responsibilities include cleaning and inspecting vehicles, reporting incidents, and participating in training and safety drills. A valid chauffeur's license, background check, and professional conduct are required.

Description

Transport students safely to and from school or to school-sponsored activities in a vehicle designed to carry ten (10) or fewer occupants. The vehicle is a 15-passenger bus that requires a chauffeur's license. Maintain safe and clean van conditions, keep accurate transportation records, and communicate effectively with parents, students, and staff about transportation-related matters. Able to read and understand transportation instructions, traffic regulations and signs, and to make written and oral reports to supervisors.

Please note that candidates must submit the names and addresses of previous employers for which the applicant was an operator of a commercial motor vehicle within the last ten years, along with the dates of employment and the reason for leaving. These employers will be contacted for verification.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Safely operate a school van to transport students between home and school or transporting students and staff on school-sponsored activities. Adhere to established transportation schedules to ensure that students arrive to their destinations on time. This position requires strict compliance with all traffic laws, safety procedures, and school policies and expectations for transportation program. Additionally, the driver must demonstrate the ability to respond promptly to changing traffic conditions and effectively problem-solve to navigate obstacles and maintain timely, safe transport.
• Actively contribute to improving transportation efficiency. This includes regularly reviewing and providing feedback on existing routes, identifying opportunities to reduce travel time and fuel consumption, and suggesting practical adjustments to enhance overall service.
• The driver is responsible for maintaining an accurate attendance log for all students assigned to their transportation route.
• Report any incidents, accidents, or safety concerns to school administration. Complete related incident reports and comply fully with any accident investigation, insurance claim processing, safety checks, or other inquiries.
• Participate in any necessary safety drills, driver training, certification procedures, or other steps required to maintain driving credentials. Submit to random drug tests as required.
• Implement student procedures to ensure safety on the bus. Make necessary reports to parents and administrators when student behavior is a concern.
• Communicate professionally with students and parents regarding student needs or concerns; provide timely notice to parents and administrators in the event of any deviations from transportation schedule.
• Maintain a high level of cleanliness on assigned vehicle(s).
• Notify administrator of any necessary repairs or maintenance on assigned vehicle(s).
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Business casual dress code.

Requirements

• Basic writing, reading and communications skills as acquired through a high school diploma or higher. Able to read and understand transportation instructions, traffic regulations and signs, and to make written and oral reports to supervisors.
• Prior experience in driving a bus or commercial vehicle preferred.
• Valid chauffeur's license.
• Clear background check, including motor vehicle record, to enable the individual to be covered through the school's insurance regarding student transportation.
• Able to communicate professionally and politely with students and parents, even in stressful situations such as when the bus is delayed or when an accident has occurred; able to exercise appropriate supervision of students on the bus and to maintain order and discipline.
• Able to comply with routine safety procedures such as vehicle checks, end-of-shift sweep, and others.
• Clean pre-employment drug test and willingness to submit to random drug testing.
• Spanish language skills is a plus.
