Job summary

The University of Vermont Medical Center is seeking a Driver Rehabilitation Specialist to join a small team of occupational therapists providing specialized driving evaluations and training. You will work in clinic and in adaptive driving vehicles to help clients who are new drivers, have low vision, or need adaptive equipment.

You will conduct evaluations, design treatment plans, and educate patients and healthcare teams on driving safety and mobility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program; licensed or eligible to practice OT in Vermont.
• Preferred: Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS) and Vermont Driving School Instructor License, but not required; if not certified/licensed, must be completed within 2 years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including evaluations, consultations, and treatment programs based on functional limitations and patient needs.
• Design, implement, and modify therapeutic interventions (therapeutic exercise, behind the wheel training, adaptive equipment prescription training, and education).
• Educate patients on diagnoses and driving implications.
• Communicate with physicians, case managers, and DMV to ensure accurate driving recommendations.
• Maintain clinic skills through continuing education and professional involvement.
• Participate in staff education, meetings, and quality improvement projects.
