Position Overview
The Ready‑Mix Driver will be responsible for transporting freshly mixed concrete from the plant to the job site in a safe manner, including making mandatory operating adjustments to the equipment and material being hauled.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Comply with DOT requirements including licensing, vehicle inspection, and hours of service.
- Operate truck safely on public highways, roads, in the yard area and at various job sites.
- Inspect the truck each workday start and complete the Driver Check‑off Sheet.
- Maneuver the truck to deliver concrete to the point of delivery; back truck under batching plant or hopper.
- Climb the ladder (≈10‑12 ft) to view load consistency and check drum cleanliness.
- Adjust trailer axle pressure based on load weight.
- Follow written and verbal instructions, including city street maps and directions; complete required paperwork.
- Assemble concrete chute(s) weighing 30‑50 lbs each.
- Operate hand and foot levers, follow hand signals while driving.
- Maintain truck cleanliness and perform mandatory post‑load cleaning to prevent concrete build‑up.
- Meet eligibility requirements for driving a commercial motor vehicle in interstate commerce (FMSR and DOT).
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Mandatory Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience with ready‑mix trucks or related industry preferred.
- Age 18+.
- Pass pre‑employment drug screen and criminal background check.
- Possess and maintain a Class A or B CDL.
- Possess and maintain a valid DOT medical card.
- Report to plant ready and on time.
- Strict adherence to safety procedures.
- Work independently and on team; assist with other duties.
- Be available for nights, weekends, holidays as needed.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Read simple instructions, memos.
- Handle stressful environments and communicate professionally.
- Collaborative, independent work style.
- Read plant site maps, city street maps, GPS.
- Mechanical aptitude, basic math skills; read truck gauges.
- Use tablet for load status, timekeeping, training.
- Follow supervisor guidance.
Physical Requirements
- Communicate via email, telephone, in person.
- Sit, use hands, finger; lift up to 25 lbs, regularly up to 50 lbs.
- Stand, walk, sit, reach, climb, balance, speak, hear.
- Make coordinated hand movements for switches.
- Climb stairs, ladders, inclined walkways, elevated platforms.
Work Environment
Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather; exposure to fumes or airborne particles; seasonal temperature extremes; vibration and moderate noise.
