Qualifications

• Active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License and 21 years of age at the time of application.
• Meet PA residency requirements for employment.
• Must pass Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.

THE POSITION

As a Driver License Examiner with the Department of Transportation, you will evaluate applicants and help prevent identity fraud. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role supports highway safety by conducting driver examinations and assisting customers at the Driver License Center. As a Driver License Examiner, you will perform the following duties:

• Applicant Evaluation: Determine driver qualifications and verify vehicle safety conditions before testing
• Knowledge Testing: Administer written examinations and ensure applicants understand traffic laws and signs
• Skills Testing: Conduct pre-trip, maneuvering, and road tests according to Department standards
• Document Review: Examine identity documents for authenticity and identify possible fraud concerns
• System Verification: Access databases to confirm identity, eligibility, and document legitimacy
• Customer Processing: Issue licenses, process applications, and explain requirements for various license types

Work Schedule and Additional Information

• Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly
• Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Overtime and travel as needed
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant ( Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration ); or
• Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.

Special Requirements:

• All positions require an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
• All positions require no suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
• All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
