Virginia Eagle Distributing Company is offering a Driver in Training position in Verona. You will work with a Class A delivery driver to learn route delivery, account servicing, and how to own a route within VED.

This role is active from day one, with 10–15 hour shifts, physical lifting, and a clear path to CDL Class A. You will earn competitive pay, safety bonuses, and opportunities for career progression in beverage distribution.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license required.
• CDL Learner's Permit required at minimum; Class A or B preferred.
• Must remain DOT compliant with a valid medical certificate.
• Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality for day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities

• Learn route delivery procedures alongside an experienced Class A CDL Delivery Driver.
• Ensure products are stocked to standard and displays are built and rotated.
• Perform front-to-back product rotation and report out-of-code product.
• Engage in all route activities to build delivery competency and product knowledge.
• Assist Sales Representative in meeting route sales goals through professional service.
• Process deliveries using company tablet and portable printer; obtain signatures.
• Support safe backing operations and provide guidance to the driver.
• Handle payments per ABC requirements and make daily deposits.
• Complete pre-trip and post-trip DVIRs.
• Keep vehicle clean and fueled with correct fuel type.
• Attend Sales Meetings and pursue CDL licensure and advancement.

Virginia Eagle Distributing (VED) is one of Virginia's leading beverage distributors, and this Driver in Training opening out of our Veronafacility is your direct path from the seat beside the driver to the driver's seat. You'll work alongside experienced Class A CDL Delivery Drivers, learning every aspect of route delivery, account servicing, and what it takes to own a route at VED.

This is not a passive training program — it's a full-effort, full-shift role from day one. You'll be on your feet lifting cases, building displays, stocking accounts, and getting your hands dirty right alongside your assigned driver. The physical demands are real: 10–15 hour shifts, repetitive lifting, all kinds of weather. The schedule: Tuesday through Friday, home every night. Three-day weekends built in, no strings attached

What You'll Do

• Work alongside an assigned Class A CDL Delivery Driver to learn route delivery procedures, account servicing, and VED Impact Standards
• Ensure all VED products are stocked to standard: shelves full, displays built, refilled, and rotated; backrooms organized with all product in selling position
• Execute front-to-back product rotation on shelves, displays, warm/cold shelves, and single-serve shelves; immediately pull and report any out-of-code product
• Actively observe, ask questions, and engage in all route activities to build delivery competency and product knowledge
• Assist the Sales Representative in meeting route sales goals through professional service at every account
• Process deliveries via company-issued tablet and portable printer: generate invoices, obtain proof-of-delivery signatures, and complete all required documentation
• Assist with safe backing operations: exit the vehicle, position behind it to provide visual clearance guidance to the driver, and alert the driver to any obstacles
• Collect payments per ABC requirements; follow VED cash handling procedures; make daily bank deposits
• Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR)
• Keep assigned company vehicle clean and check fluid levels; fuel with the correct fuel type
• Attend required Sales Meetings and actively pursue CDL licensure and VED career advancement

What We're Looking For

• Valid standard driver's license — required
• CDL Learner's Permit — required at minimum; CDL Class A or Class B preferred
• Must remain DOT qualified to operate a commercial motor vehicle; current DOT medical certificate per FMCSA regulations required
• Must maintain insurability to operate a motor vehicle
• Genuine interest in obtaining a CDL Class A and building a driving career in beverage distribution
• Ability to lift and carry 15–40+ lbs. repeatedly throughout a 10–15 hour shift, including overhead lifting, with frequent bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and sitting
• Ability to occasionally lift kegs weighing up to 165 lbs.
• Ability to safely operate a pallet jack, hand truck, and u-boat
• Basic math skills and ability to communicate in English verbally and in writing
• Reliable attendance; must report to work on time as scheduled

What We Offer

• Competitive base salary: $46,250-$49,800 yearlybased on location and experience. Starting pay for new hires is typically at or near the range minimum. Placement above the minimum is based on directly relevant industry experience and internal equity.
• Structured pathway to Class A CDL Delivery Driver: upon obtaining CDL licensure, DIT employees advance directly to the Class A classification and pay range
• Upon promotion to Delivery Driver — Class A and assignment to a route: monthly safety bonus up to $600/month ($7,200/yr) for drivers who meet monthly safety criteria
