Driver - Cylinder (Transportation)

Linde Gas & Equipment Inc. is hiring a Driver - Cylinder at our Newark, NJ location. Our Driver - Cylinder Handlers are responsible for safely operating local route delivery vehicles to deliver hard goods, compressed gas cylinders, and related products to customer locations. The role requires effective communication and cooperation with customers, safe vehicle operation in compliance with company and DOT guidelines, and handling of low-pressure packaged gas cylinders, including filling, labeling, and preparing them. The position is physically demanding, requiring attention to detail and a strong safety focus.

Responsibilities include:

1. Providing high-standard customer service during deliveries, including unloading, moving products to customer points, and reloading empty cylinders.
2. Driving approximately 30% of the day; the rest involves delivery, cylinder handling, paperwork, customer contact, and vehicle inspections.
3. Accurately recording quantities and styles of products delivered and picked up.
4. Completing hazardous material shipping paperwork per DOT/TC regulations.
5. Placing hazard labels on vehicles and conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
6. Identifying vehicle maintenance needs and ensuring repairs are completed timely.
7. Handling medical and industrial gas cylinders following plant guidelines, including testing and repairs.
8. Loading and unloading products, operating cylinder scales, and maintaining inventory documentation.
9. Operating forklifts and other plant vehicles.
10. Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• At least 2 years of driving experience or completion of a truck driver training course.
• No preventable accidents, license suspensions, or violations in the past 2 years.
• No alcohol-related convictions in the last 10 years.
• Valid Class A or B CDL; current Hazmat certification or ability to obtain within 60 days.
• Experience in a plant or manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Proficiency in reading and writing English.
• Must be 21 or older.
