Job summary

Veolia North America is seeking a traveling Waste Handler to perform hazardous and non-hazardous waste tasks outdoors, wearing PPE. Candidates must be comfortable with overtime and keeping a clean-shaven appearance.

Responsibilities include consolidating wastes, decontamination, paperwork, sampling, packaging, and coordinating transportation, while following DOT/EPA regulations and safety guidelines. Requires a High School diploma or GED and 1–3 years of waste experience; 40-hour HAZWOPER

  • Manifesting, packaging, spill cleanup and remedial activities, labeling, loading and unloading, and coordinating transportation.

Job Description

This is a traveling position. Additionally, candidates must be comfortable with working overtime and maintaining a clean-shaven appearance.

Position Purpose

Responsible for performing a variety of daily hazardous and non-hazardous waste tasks outside while wearing personal protective equipment. Tasks include all types of manual labor in handling, consolidating, unloading and loading containers for processing at site or transportation to appropriate facilities.

Primary Duties / Responsibilities
  • Consolidate hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials at designated sites utilizing appropriate equipment for which you are appropriately trained.
  • Decontaminate and dispose of empty drums and/or containers according to RCRA and disposal guidelines.
  • Assist in completing all necessary paperwork for processing materials.
  • Sample waste streams according to prescribed policies and procedures.
  • Manifesting, packaging, spill clean-up response and remedial activities, labeling, loading, off loading, and coordinating transportation.
  • Maintain a professional image to clients by answering inquiries and suggesting solutions to existing/potential problems.
  • Comply and enforce all compliance, health, safety, and procedures.
  • Become familiar with all U. S. Department of Transportation (DOT)/Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations required in submitting paperwork to expedite disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Operate and maintain all equipment in a professional manner to ensure optimum efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education / Experience / Background
  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required
  • One to three years of waste experience.
40-hour HAZWOPER and Safety training provided.
