Herrman Lumber is seeking a CDL Driver to safely transport lumber and materials while complying with DOT rules. You will handle load securement, document delivery, and interact professionally with customers and suppliers.

Requirements include a CDL Class B, a high school diploma or GED, and at least one year of commercial driving experience. You may assist with loading, unload, and yard organization as needed.

Responsibilities

• Ensure vehicles are maintained in safe condition and report issues promptly.
• Secure loads with straps and tarps to prevent movement during transit.
• Interact professionally with customers and suppliers and verify delivery documentation.
• Maintain records of deliveries (bills of lading, receipts, fuel logs) per policy.
• Assist with loading/unloading and yard organization when not driving.
• Report accidents or safety concerns following procedures.
• Participate in ongoing safety and DOT compliance training.

The CDL Driver is responsible for safely transporting lumber and building materials to designated locations while adhering to DOT regulations, maintaining vehicle safety, and ensuring accurate delivery documentation. This role also involves load securement, professional customer interaction, and participation in company safety and compliance programs.

What will I do?

• Operate only commercial vehicles (Class B with air brakes) with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of over 10,000 pounds to transport lumber, building materials, and equipment to customer sites, suppliers, or other designated locations.
• Transport materials over public highways in interstate commerce, including routes that cross state lines or connect with terminals.
• Adhere to all DOT regulations, including hours-of-service (HOS) requirements, and complete pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Ensure vehicles remain in safe operating condition by reporting any mechanical issues immediately.
• Secure loads properly using straps, tarps, and other equipment to prevent shifting or damage during transit, ensuring compliance with DOT weight and load securement regulations.
• Follow all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), adhering to speed limits, and maintaining safe distances from other vehicles.
• Interact professionally with customers and suppliers, ensuring accurate delivery of materials and addressing any concerns promptly.
• Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including bills of lading, delivery receipts, and fuel logs, in compliance with DOT and company policies.
• Assist with loading and unloading lumber, organizing materials in the yard, and performing other tasks as needed when not driving.
• Report any accidents, injuries, or safety violations immediately, following company and DOT procedures.
• Participate in ongoing safety and DOT compliance training sessions provided by the company.
• Immediately report any safety concerns, near-misses, or equipment issues to management.
• Comply with DOT-mandated drug and alcohol testing requirements, including pre-employment, random, and post-accident testing.

Position Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent GED is required.
• A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B is required.
• One year of previous commercial driving experience is required.
• Must be able to raise and move up to 75 pounds of equipment, tools, supplies, and/or other items from a lower to a higher position or horizontally from position to position.
