Job summary

Sunbelt Rentals is seeking a hands-on Class A CDL Driver for the Trenching Division to operate mobile cranes, rig and stage trenching and shoring systems, and work directly at construction sites.

You will transport and secure equipment, perform on-site troubleshooting, and document all deliveries in compliance with DOT and company safety standards. This is a field-heavy role requiring physical labor and site mobility.

Responsibilities

• Operate mobile cranes to load, unload, and stage trenching/shoring systems.

• Drive heavy-duty vehicles through varied terrain to deliver equipment.

Job Description Summary Class A CDL Driver - Trenching Division IMPORTANT: Please Read Before Applying This is NOT a traditional "No-Touch" or "Drop-and-Hook" OTR role. To be successful in this position, you must be comfortable with the following: Manual Labor: This role requires you to get out of the truck, rig heavy trenching equipment, and physically secure loads. You will be actively working on construction job sites, not just driving. Specialized Operation: You will be operating mobile truck cranes to load/unload your own equipment. Construction Site Access: You will be navigating tight, unpaved, and uneven construction job sites daily. If you are looking for a "stay in the cab" or "no-touch" freight driving position, this role will not be a fit for your preferences.

This is not a traditional "drop-and-go" delivery role. As a key member of our Trenching team, you will act as a field equipment operator. You will be responsible for the safe transport, rigging, and precise placement of complex trenching and shoring equipment using a mobile truck crane. You will work directly with our customers at their job sites, ensuring that equipment is offloaded, positioned, and staged according to their specific project requirements.

Active Field Operation: You are the face of our division on the job site. This is a hands‑on position that involves manual labor, equipment rigging, and crane operation, not just driving.

Key Responsibilities & Expectations:

• Mobile Crane Operation: Operate mounted cranes to load, unload, and stage trenching and shoring systems safely and efficiently.
• Rigging & Securement: Expert knowledge of load securement, chain/strap usage, and rigging techniques to ensure the safety of equipment during transit and offloading.
• Field Troubleshooting: Perform on-site inspections and minor mechanical repairs to ensure equipment operational safety.
• Delivery & Logistics: Drive heavy‑duty commercial vehicles (flatbed/RGN/lowboy) through varying terrain and high-traffic construction zones.
• Documentation: Accurately complete inspection reports, log books, and customer delivery/pick‑up paperwork in compliance with D.O.T. and Sunbelt safety standards.

Qualifications:

• Required: Valid Class A CDL with an acceptable driving record.
• Required: Ability to perform manual labor, including bending, squatting, crouching, and lifting 50+ pounds.
• Required: Strong understanding of load securement, DOT regulations, and construction site safety protocols.
• Preferred: Demonstrated experience operating mobile truck cranes in a construction or industrial environment.
• Preferred: Prior experience in the trenching, shoring, or underground utility industry.
• Preferred: Strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn specialized equipment operation.

Physical Demands:

This role requires significant physical activity, including working outdoors in various weather conditions, climbing on and off equipment, and utilizing manual tools to secure loads.

Base Pay Range:

$27.07 - 40.59 Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, position offered, location, education, training, and/or experience.
