Job summary

FedEx Freight in Rockford, IL is seeking a CDL-class driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and straight trucks. You will perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, maintain logs, and follow Dispatch instructions while ensuring safety and hazmat compliance.

Role may include dock duties and occasional forklift operation. Starting pay is $27.26 per hour with potential up to $32.47, plus extensive benefits and opportunities at FedEx Freight.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP).
• Must possess acceptable MVR based on hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulations under 391 FMC.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers requiring ~100 lb lift, several times daily.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and work training.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from tractor/trailer.
• Maintain accurate daily logs.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding requirements.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Perform forklift or freight handling duties when needed.
• Chain vehicle tires as required.
• Adhere to laws, regulations, and company policies.

Starting Rate of Pay: $ 27.26 per hour

POSITION OVERVIEW

Through education and driving skills development, become proficient in the operation of a tractor trailer combination, picking up and delivering trailers between service centers and/or turn-point locations. Responsibilities may include non-driving duties such as forklift operation and working the dock.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
• Maintain accurate daily logs
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Communicate with and follow Dispatch instructions regarding events including, but not limited to, delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc., as required
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and company procedures, and confirm placarding matches hazmat shipments, as required
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service
• Where operationally necessary, perform job duties of a city driver or freight handler
• Where operationally necessary, perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including, but not limited to, forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck
• Chain vehicle tires, as required
• Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
• Perform other duties as required

Pay
