Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations and handle dock duties across service centers. The role emphasizes safety inspections, accurate logs, and adhering to dispatch instructions.

Responsibilities include hitching trailers, handling freight, and occasionally performing city driving or forklift tasks. A Class A CDL or CLP with solid MVR and DOT certification are required to qualify.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering the job classification.
• Must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) according to hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under 49 CFR Part 391.
• Ability to perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift ~100 pounds repeatedly to hook/unhook trailers.
• Ability to sit for extended periods and move in a truck environment.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete training.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Maintain accurate daily logs and required reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch about delays, arrivals, or problems.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding where required.
• Provide internal and external customer service.
• Perform related duties such as city driving or freight handling when needed.
• Operate freight-handling equipment like forklift or pallet jack when required.

Starting Rate of Pay: $ 26.84 per hour

POSITION OVERVIEW

Through education and driving skills development, become proficient in the operation of a tractor trailer combination, picking up and delivering trailers between service centers and/or turn-point locations. Responsibilities may include non-driving duties such as forklift operation and working the dock.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
• Maintain accurate daily logs
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Communicate with and follow Dispatch instructions regarding events including, but not limited to, delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc., as required
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and company procedures, and confirm placarding matches hazmat shipments, as required
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service
• Where operationally necessary, perform job duties of a city driver or freight handler
• Where operationally necessary, perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including, but not limited to, forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck
• Chain vehicle tires, as required
• Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
• Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Drive long distances day and night on all types of roads in all types of weather
• Exposure to noise and vibration
• Exposure to dust and diesel fumes
• Exposure to hazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulations
• Hours may vary due to operational need
• Overnight stays may be required for some schedules

Pay:

Hourly: $26.84 - $31.97
