Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc is seeking a driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations and perform non-driving duties such as forklift operation and dock work at our Everett, WA facility. This role emphasizes safety inspections, proper securing of freight, and effective communication with Dispatch and customers.

Qualified candidates will hold a Class A CDL or CLP, maintain a clean MVR, meet DOT regulations, and demonstrate basic math and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP).
  • Must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) per hiring standards.
  • Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under 49 CFR Part 391.
  • Ability to count, perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to hook up and breakdown trailers requiring ~100 lb lift.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 100 lbs several times a day.

Responsibilities

  • Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and straight trucks.
  • Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
  • Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies as needed.
  • Handle freight using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
  • Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and rope.
  • Recoup/repair damaged freight when needed.
  • Verify and complete documentation and reports.
  • Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related records.
  • Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding.
  • Communicate with Dispatch on delays, arrivals, or equipment issues.
  • Provide internal and external customer service.
  • Determine customer pick-up or delivery needs and seek additional business.

Starting Rate of Pay: $ 26.84 per hour

POSITION OVERVIEW

Through education and driving skills development, become proficient in the operation of a tractor trailer combination. Responsibilities include non-driving duties such as forklift operation and working the dock.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks
  • Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment
  • Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
  • Perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including, but not limited to, forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck
  • Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies, including, but not limited to, pallets, straps, and rope
  • Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary
  • Verify and complete required documentation and reports
  • Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation, as required
  • Comply with hazardous material regulations and company procedures, and confirm placarding matches hazmat shipments, as required
  • Communicate with and follow Dispatch instructions regarding events including, but not limited to, delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc., as required
  • Demonstrate internal and external customer service
  • Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs
  • Ask customers for additional business, and provide leads to sales for potential new opportunities
  • Where operationally necessary, perform job duties of a road driver or freight handler
  • Chain vehicle tires, as required
  • Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
  • Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of approximately 100 pounds, several times a day
  • Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds, several times a week
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
  • Ability to work independently and/or as a team member
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Drive day and night on all types of roads in all types of weather
  • Exposure to noise and vibration
  • Exposure to dust and diesel fumes
  • Exposure to hazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulations
  • Hours may vary due to operational need

Pay:

Hourly: $26.84 - $31.97
