Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a driver/dork technician-style role in Bowling Green, KY. You will operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles or straight trucks, and perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure safety compliance.

Responsibilities include equipment hookup, freight handling with forklifts and pallet jacks, securing cargo, and completing necessary paperwork. You may assist with road duties and hazmat compliance as required.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or a commercial learning permit prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds, several times a day.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer including doubles/straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding as required.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Pursue additional business opportunities and provide leads to sales.
• Perform road driver or freight handler duties where needed.
• Chain vehicle tires as required.
• Comply with laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.

Starting Rate of Pay: $24.42/ hour

POSITION OVERVIEW

Through education and driving skills development, become proficient in the operation of a tractor trailer combination. Responsibilities include non-driving duties such as forklift operation and working the dock.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
• Perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including, but not limited to, forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck
• Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies, including, but not limited to, pallets, straps, and rope
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation, as required
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and company procedures, and confirm placarding matches hazmat shipments, as required
• Communicate with and follow Dispatch instructions regarding events including, but not limited to, delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc., as required
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs
• Ask customers for additional business, and provide leads to sales for potential new opportunities
• Where operationally necessary, perform job duties of a road driver or freight handler
• Chain vehicle tires, as required
• Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
• Perform other duties as required

• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Drive day and night on all types of roads in all types of weather
• Exposure to noise and vibration

• Hours may vary due to operational need
