Job summary

Shorehaven in Sterling Heights, MI, is seeking a Driver to transport residents to activities in a safe, timely manner. You will help with light maintenance tasks and support other departments as needed.

The role requires a clean driving record, a valid license, and the ability to lift 40 lbs. A CDL may be required in some cases. We offer a welcoming team and a stable work environment.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Clean driving record and valid driver’s license.
  • CDL license if required.
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and basic mechanical skills.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs and perform physical tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • English literacy required.
  • Must pass drug test and background check on hire.
  • Read, write and speak English; follow directions.

Responsibilities

  • Chauffeur residents in company vehicle as scheduled.
  • Ensure safety of residents when entering and exiting vehicle.
  • Maintain and keep the vehicle clean and in good running order.
  • Assist maintenance/housekeeping with light tasks.
  • Support Life Enrichment activities as needed.
  • Report safety concerns to supervisor.
  • Complete errands as requested by supervisor.

Summary of Duties

The Driver is responsible for maintaining the van and chauffeuring the residents to various activities and events in a safe manner. The Driver may be responsible for establishing and monitoring weekly/daily transportation schedules as requested by a supervisor. The Driver assists the Maintenance and/or Housekeeping Department with light maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, sweeping, mopping, cleaning, and emptying trash. The Driver may also assist the Life Enrichment Department with supporting resident activities and functions.

Essential Functions of the Driver
  • Chauffeur the residents in the company vehicle as scheduled.
  • Ensure resident safety when entering and exiting the vehicle.
  • Ensure safety rules are followed when the vehicle is in motion.
  • Understand the mechanical lift requirements and limitations and follow procedures accordingly.
  • Report any safety concerns to a supervisor immediately.
  • Report any resident health or safety concerns to a supervisor immediately.
  • Pick up and deliver errands as requested by supervisor.
  • Keep the company vehicle clean and in proper running order.
  • Report to the supervisor when not driving the company vehicle for additional duties.
Non‑Essential Functions of the Driver
  • Supports and participates in the resident‑centered activity programs.
  • Participates in projects or committees as assigned.
  • Attends all associate meetings including in‑service education and associate functions as requested by supervisor.
  • Assists in a variety of tasks involving residents as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED at a minimum.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • Completion of drug testing and criminal record background check upon hire and upon request of supervisor.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license sufficient to drive the company vehicle.
  • Must have a valid CDL license if required.
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
  • Basic mechanical skills.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • Physical requirements include bending, standing, lifting, stooping, sitting, carrying, stretching, and walking; must have manual dexterity to operate a vehicle safely.
  • Must have the interpersonal skills to work with various levels of people, associates, and residents.
  • Be free of communicable disease.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak in English.
  • Ability to follow directions.
