Job summary

Boart Longyear Ltd. is seeking a Surface RC Driller Assistant in Pendleton, OR to support drilling crews. Earn while you learn with paid training, MSHA and First Aid certifications, and a clear path for growth.

Expect 14–20 day shifts with overtime, vehicle and equipment handling, and a strong team culture. Travel to worksites across multiple states is required; valid driver’s license and work authorization are essential.

Qualifications

Willing to travel to worksites across multiple states including Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado and more.
Able to commute long distances for shifts (300+ miles).
Willing to work in remote locations and in all-weather elements.
Willing to work 12+ hour shifts for 14–20 days at a time.
Must have a valid U.S. Driver’s License and U.S. Work Authorization.
Must pass background and drug screening.
Must complete a Physical Fitness Evaluation.
High School diploma or GED or equivalent.
Minimum of 1 year of directly related drilling experience or related positions.

Responsibilities

Provide semi-skilled labor for drilling crews and operate various equipment as needed.
Haul supplies to and from drill sites and assist with rigging up/down.
Mix drilling fluids and make connections by adding/removing drill rods.
Collect samples and ensure proper labeling, organization, and storage.
Maintain site equipment, perform routine maintenance and inspections.
Provide site inductions to visitors and manage inventory of parts.
Assist in training new drill assistants when required.

Responsibilities

Provide semi-skilled labor-intensive assistance for drilling crews. This could include the operation of various types of vehicles, equipment/machinery and other tasks including:

Hauling supplies to and from the drill site
Manual material handling
Mixing drilling fluids
Making connections – Adding/Removing rods to/from drill string.
Sample Collection – Ensure bags/cores are labeled correctly, are legible, kept in numeric order according to designated footages and closed securely.
Building chip trays.
Assist in rigging up/down and moving to new drill locations.
Fueling of site equipment and conducting preventative maintenance (Oil Changes, Greasing, Fueling, etc.)
Complete daily site inspections, mast inspections and pre-shift inspections on all equipment.
Responsible for providing site inductions to all visitors.
Responsible for maintaining an accurate parts inventory.
Responsible for general condition of and obtaining optimum life out of all site equipment and tooling.
Other duties as assigned by Driller/Field Supervisor
Also, at times, you may be responsible for the training of new driller assistant in a safe environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Willing to travel by plane or car to worksites throughout Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado and other states where we do business.
Able to commute long distances for shifts (300+ miles)
Willing to work in remote locations and in all-weather elements
Willing to work at job sites for an extended period of time, 12+ hour shifts for 14-20 days at a time
Must have a valid U.S. Driver’s License
Must have valid U.S. Work Authorization
Must pass background and drug screening
Must pass a Physical Functional Fitness Evaluation
High School diploma or GED or equivalent
Minimum of 1 year of directly related experience in drilling AND/OR
Minimum of 1 year experience in related positions such as: construction laborer, heavy laborer, mechanic, and mechanical work.
