Job summary

Thompson Engineering in Mobile, AL is seeking a hardworking Drilling Helper to join our field crew. You will support drilling operations behind the rig, handle rods and tools, and move equipment between vehicles and sites.

This on-site role requires physical stamina, the ability to travel to onshore and offshore assignments, and a commitment to safety and quality procedures. CDL preferred, high school diploma required, and valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver's License required; Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude and experience with hydraulic systems preferred.
• Ability to work on both onshore and offshore projects for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Perform drilling duties behind the drill rig using drill rods, wrenches, and related tools.
• Load and unload drilling equipment in and out of company vehicles and trailers.
• Drive company vehicle to and from work sites.
• Maintain on-time attendance and reliability.
• Handle mud and monitor fluid properties for drilling operations.
• Repair and perform maintenance on equipment in the field and at shop.
• Follow safety and quality procedures; perform other duties as required.

Job description

Essential Functions Of The Position

• Perform variety of drilling duties handling drill rods, wrenches and other tools behind the drill rig equipment
• Responsible for loading and unloading drilling equipment in and out of the company vehicles and trailers
• Drives company vehicle to and from work sites
• On time and consistent attendance
• Picks up sacks filled with mud and empties the mud into the mixer container
• Monitors the fluid properties of the drilling fluids (mud)
• Equipment repairs and maintenance in the field and at shop

Minimum Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions
• Valid Driver's License required
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred
• Mechanical aptitude; past experience with working with mechanical systems of some type
• Past experience with working with hydraulic systems of some type preferred
• Ability to work on both onshore and offshore project assignments for extended periods of time as may be required for the projects

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in the field or outside 12 months of the year up to 100% of scheduled work hours
• Required to be standing or walking for up to 12 hours per work day and walk on uneven/unstable surfaces, concrete, grass, dirt, gravel
• Must be able to bend, stoop and climb
• Must be able to communicate verbally
• Required to be able to lift up to 100 lb. sacks of materials
• Ability to manipulate with hands to screw and unscrew equipment, operate tools and machinery
• Ability to travel and stay overnight on out of town assignments, and work flexible schedules including overtime based on the drilling work load
