Summary

The Student Nurse/Co‑Op (Level 2) supports and assists a registered nurse in delivering quality patient care. Responsibilities include patient assessment, vital sign monitoring, documentation, communication during hand‑offs, and following safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Listen actively and respond to patient needs; ensure cultural sensitivity and individualized care.
• Participate in daily RN/CNA hand‑offs and unit huddles; gather patient information and report changes to the RN.
• Demonstrate flexibility and adapt to patient acuity and unit needs.
• Support quality and safety measures, including Quality Assessment Performance Improvement goals.
• Perform duties in line with Penn Medicine values, policies and procedures.
• Assist in patient assessment: record vital signs, blood‑sugar results, functional status and report abnormal data.
• Support patient care rounds, multidisciplinary rounds and staff meetings.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living, skin‑care, restraints, and post‑mortem care as ordered.
• Document and report interventions, observations, and any clinical escalations promptly.

Credentials

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience

• High‑School Diploma or GED (Required)
• Matriculated in an accredited BSN Nursing Program; minimum 3.0 GPA overall and within the nursing major.
