Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking a Drainage Project Manager to lead transportation drainage efforts and help establish a growing drainage practice in Florida.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced engineer who wants more than just project delivery. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help define the future of the drainage group, influence hiring decisions, develop technical standards, mentor staff, and ultimately build a team around them.

Initially, the drainage group will operate within an established transportation team and will have access to junior engineers and designers for project support. The long-term vision is to create a dedicated drainage practice led by this individual.

From day one, you will have the opportunity to contribute to major transportation infrastructure projects while positioning yourself as the technical leader for future drainage pursuits throughout the state.

About the Opportunity

Our client is an employee-owned engineering and consulting firm with a strong reputation for delivering complex transportation and infrastructure projects across multiple markets. With a collaborative culture, established leadership, and a significant investment in continued growth throughout Florida, they offer the resources and project depth of a larger organization while maintaining the flexibility and entrepreneurial spirit of a growing regional team.

The transportation practice continues to expand across the state and is actively investing in drainage leadership. This position represents a rare opportunity for an experienced drainage professional to build and shape a Florida drainage group within an already successful transportation operation.

Responsibilities
  • Lead drainage and stormwater design efforts for transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Serve as Drainage Engineer of Record (EOR) on projects as appropriate.
  • Prepare and oversee drainage reports, stormwater management plans, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, and permit documentation.
  • Coordinate with roadway, structures, traffic, utilities, environmental, and construction teams to deliver successful projects.
  • Provide quality control reviews and technical guidance for drainage deliverables.
  • Develop drainage design standards, workflows, and best practices.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Assist with proposal development, project pursuits, and client presentations.
  • Support business development activities and foster relationships with transportation agencies and local clients.
  • Play a key role in recruiting, developing, and growing a Florida drainage team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 8+ years of transportation drainage experience.
  • Strong understanding of roadway drainage design, hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, and permitting.
  • Experience with FDOT projects, standards, and design criteria preferred.
  • Experience leading drainage tasks or serving as Drainage EOR.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard drainage design and modeling software.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Desire to mentor staff and help build a growing technical practice.
Why Join?
  • Opportunity to become the foundational leader of a growing Florida drainage practice.
  • Ability to help shape the technical direction, hiring strategy, and long-term growth of the team.
  • Strong backlog of transportation projects with immediate opportunities for impact.
  • Support from an established transportation leadership team and multidisciplinary organization.
  • Flexibility to focus on technical leadership, team development, business development, or a combination of all three.
  • Employee-owned culture that rewards initiative, leadership, and long-term contribution.
  • Clear path toward building and leading a dedicated drainage group in one of Florida's fastest-growing transportation practices.

This role is ideal for a drainage professional who wants the opportunity to build something from the ground up while still having the support, resources, and project opportunities of a well-established engineering organization.
