Job summary

Horrocks is seeking a Drainage Project Engineer with 7-9 years of experience to lead the planning, design, and delivery of drainage and stormwater projects. You will mentor junior staff and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver buildable, code-compliant solutions for public and private sector clients.

The role emphasizes managing project components from concept through construction, reviewing reports and calculations, and communicating technical information clearly.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• 7-9 years of progressive drainage and stormwater experience.
• Professional Engineer license or working toward licensure.
• Strong understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, and drainage design.
• Experience with public and private sector clients.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to the design of stormwater, drainage, and flood mitigation systems.
• Prepare and review drainage reports, technical calculations, plans, and specs.
• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using industry-standard software.
• Apply local, regional, and national drainage standards and regulatory requirements.
• Identify and manage drainage risks and opportunities through project development.
• Manage assigned project components from concept through construction support.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Review contractor submittals and respond to RFIs during construction.
• Support cost estimates, schedules, and design optimizations.
• Engage with clients, municipalities, and regulatory agencies to obtain approvals.
• Present technical information clearly in meetings and proposals.
• Provide mentorship and review work prepared by others.

As a Drainage Project Engineer with 7-9 years of experience, you will play a key role in the planning, design, and delivery of drainage and stormwater infrastructure projects. What are the core responsibilities for the role?

• Lead and contribute to the design of stormwater, drainage, and flood mitigation systems for land development and infrastructure projects


• Prepare and review drainage reports, technical calculations, plans, and specifications


• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using industry-standard software (e.g., \"Civil 3D\", \"HEC-RAS\", \"HEC-HMS\", \"XP-SWMM\", \"InfoDrainage\", or similar)


• Apply local, regional, and national drainage standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements


• Identify and manage drainage-related risks, constraints, and opportunities throughout project development


• Manage assigned project components from concept through detailed design and construction support


• Coordinate with civil, transportation, structural, and environmental teams to deliver integrated solutions


• Review contractor submittals and respond to RFIs during construction


• Support development of cost estimates, schedules, and design optimizations


• Collaborate with clients, municipalities, and regulatory agencies to obtain approvals and resolve technical issues


• Participate in project meetings and present technical information clearly and confidently


• Support proposal preparation, scope definition, and business development efforts as needed


• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers


• Review work prepared by others to ensure quality, accuracy, and consistency


• Contribute to continuous improvement of standards, tools, and internal processes

Qualifications, Skills, And Competencies

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline


• 7-9 years of progressive experience in drainage and stormwater engineering


• Professional Engineer (PE / P.Eng. / CEng) license or actively working toward licensure


• Strong understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, and drainage design principles


• Proficiency with drainage and modeling software (e.g., \"Civil 3D\", \"HEC-RAS\", \"InfoDrainage\", \"XP-SWMM\", or equivalent)


• Experience working with public and private sector clients


• Ability to interpret survey data, geotechnical reports, and environmental constraints


• Solid knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and approval processes


• Strong written and verbal communication skills


• Ability to manage priorities and work independently


• Collaborative mindset with a proactive, problem-solving approach


• High attention to detail with a focus on practical, constructible solutions
