Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Drainage Engineer with an active Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license to join our growing transportation and infrastructure team. This position will play a key role in the planning, analysis, design, and delivery of drainage and stormwater management projects throughout Florida. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting roadway, highway, municipal, and transportation projects, with a strong understanding of Florida drainage criteria and permitting requirements.

This role offers the opportunity to work on complex infrastructure projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative and sustainable drainage solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and perform drainage engineering analyses and design for transportation, municipal, and land development projects.
  • Prepare drainage reports, calculations, plans, specifications, and supporting technical documentation.
  • Design stormwater management systems, culverts, retention/detention facilities, conveyance systems, and roadway drainage infrastructure.
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using industry-standard software.
  • Coordinate with project managers, roadway engineers, environmental specialists, and regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare permit applications and support agency coordination efforts with:
  • Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)
  • St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD)
  • Local municipalities and regulatory agencies
  • Ensure project deliverables comply with FDOT standards, Florida regulations, and client requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineering staff.
  • Participate in client meetings, project presentations, and business development activities.
  • Support project budgeting, scheduling, and quality control efforts.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Florida, or ability to obtain Florida PE through reciprocity within a reasonable timeframe.
  • 5+ years of drainage engineering experience supporting transportation, municipal, or civil infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • FDOT Drainage Manual
  • FDOT Design Manual (FDM)
  • Florida stormwater regulations
  • Water management district permitting requirements
  • Experience preparing drainage reports and hydraulic/hydrologic calculations.
  • Proficiency with one or more of the following:
  • ICPR
  • HEC-RAS
  • HY-8
  • GeoHECRAS
  • MicroStation
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 8+ years of drainage design experience in Florida.
  • Experience as Engineer of Record (EOR) for drainage design components.
  • Knowledge of resiliency, flood mitigation, and coastal stormwater design.
  • Prior experience leading project teams and coordinating with clients.
Orlando or Jacksonville area residency preferred.
