Job summary

HSI is seeking an experienced Drafting Manager to lead our drafting department for pressure vessel and structural fabrication work. You will guide drafters, set quality standards, and serve as a technical partner to engineering and production.

You will mentor staff, manage resources, and ensure drawings meet code and client specs while coordinating with engineering, project management, and CNC programming to keep schedules on track.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or certificate in Drafting, CAD, or Engineering Technology.
• 7+ years of manufacturing or industrial drafting experience.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and advanced 2D/3D modeling.
• Knowledge of pressure vessels, ASME BPVC, fired heaters, and structural design.
• Proven experience leading multiple projects and teams to deadline.
• Sharp eye for detail and strong cross-team communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the drafting team, manage resources, deadlines, and performance.
• Set and enforce drafting standards, templates, and best practices; drive continuous improvement.
• Oversee creation and revision of 2D/3D drawings, fabrication prints, and layouts and verify compliance.

• Partner with engineering, project management, and production to resolve design questions; align releases with CNC programming and schedules.

In this role, you'll guide a talented team of drafters and designers, set the standards that keep our drawings accurate and code-compliant, and serve as a key technical partner to engineering and production. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Leadership & Standards

• Lead and mentor the drafting team (Drafters, Senior Drafters, Checker, and CNC Programmer)
• Manage resources, deadlines, and performance to keep projects on time and on budget
• Set and enforce drafting standards, templates, and best practices; drive continuous improvement

Drawing & Technical Oversight

• Oversee creation and revision of 2D/3D drawings, fabrication prints, and layouts
• Verify drawings for accuracy and code/standards compliance; approve BOMs and production docs
• Translate customer specs and engineering requirements into manufacturable designs

Cross-Functional Coordination

• Partner with engineering, project management, and production to resolve design questions
• Align drawing releases with CNC programming, material take-offs, and project schedules

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Associate's degree or certificate in Drafting, CAD, or Engineering Technology
• 7+ years of manufacturing or industrial drafting experience
• Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and advanced 2D/3D modeling
• Knowledge of pressure vessels, ASME BPVC, fired heaters, and structural design
• Proven experience leading multiple projects and teams to deadline

Preferred

• PDM/PLM implementation or administration experience
• Prior experience managing a drafting or design team
• Background in fired heater, pressure vessel, or heavy structural fabrication (oil & gas / petrochemical)
• Familiarity with API 560, AWS D1.1, and ASME Section VIII
