Job summary

Qualifications

• 7+ years of drafting/engineering/production experience; 8–10 years preferred for millwork or cabinetry
• Experience with architectural millwork or cabinetry fabrication/installation
• Proficient in CAD; able to read and develop shop/production drawings
• Strong ability to interpret redlines and translate design intent into buildable solutions
• Excellent organization and time-management in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Relevant experience can be considered in place of a specific degree, with a high school diploma or equivalent

Job description

Position Title: Drafting Engineer

We are seeking a Drafting Engineer to support the drafting and production process for high-end architectural millwork and custom cabinetry projects. This role works closely with drafting, project management, and manufacturing teams to develop shop and production drawings, create material takeoffs and cut lists, program CNC machinery, and release accurate work orders to the shop.

The ideal candidate is a highly organized, deadline-driven problem solver who understands how architectural drawings translate into fabrication and installation. You should be comfortable working through incomplete information, solving constructability challenges, and communicating across teams to keep demanding projects moving forward.

Pay Range

$27-$38 / per hour, DOE

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed shop drawings, production drawings, and submittals for architectural millwork and custom cabinetry projects
• Review architectural drawings and redlines to determine the most effective approach for fabrication and installation
• Create stock bills, cut lists, Bills of Material, and detailed material takeoffs
• Program CNC machinery and prepare accurate production information for release to the shop
• Revise drawings based on project redlines, field conditions, and evolving specifications
• Interpret and complete architectural specifications when project documentation is incomplete or requires additional detail
• Prepare RFIs and coordinate with project managers, architects, plant personnel, and field teams to resolve drawing or constructability issues

Requirements

• 7+ years of relevant drafting, engineering, or production experience preferred, with 8–10 years highly desirable for candidates coming directly from architectural millwork or custom cabinetry
• Experience with architectural millwork, custom cabinetry fabrication and/or installation strongly preferred
• Strong CAD or comparable professional drafting software experience required
• Ability to read, interpret, and develop architectural drawings, shop drawings, and production-ready documentation
• Strong understanding of redlines, submittal drawings, and translating design intent into buildable solutions
• Excellent organization and time-management skills with the ability to perform in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Strong computer proficiency and a high school diploma or equivalent; relevant experience can be considered in place of a specific degree
