Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Create detailed drawings and models from specifications from Designers/Engineers.
• Review and revise drawings to ensure adherence to standards and specs.
• Develop 2D drawings and finalize designs, ensuring dimensions and materials are correct.
• Coordinate with engineering team to resolve discrepancies between drawings and CAD outputs.
• Maintain project drawing files and documentation; support quality and safety initiatives.

Designs feature the relationship between various tank car mechanical parts and systems along with information about the materials to be used in production, as well as dimensions of the product being manufactured. The drafter reviews engineering drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards. Collaborates with design originators to resolve discrepancies between original drawings and final CAD designs.Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:Create detailed drawings and models from verbal and written specifications that are obtained from the Designer, Project Leader, Project Engineer or Drafting Manager.Research and review drawing files and other sources such as manufacturers catalogs, customer specification sheets and Union Tank Car Design Manual.Plans and prepares preliminary designs and specifications, working with both 3D and 2D design, ensuring adherence to company and industry standards. These designs are again reviewed and discussed with the engineering team to identify and implement any changes or additions to the current design and features.Calculate and specify dimensions, weight limitations and requirements in materials.Resolve any potential issues and redesigns to improve functionality.Develop 2D drawings by analyzing prototypes and 3D models.Finalize design by checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.Ensure final design complies with regulations and quality standards.Prepare and present drawings for final review.Maintains project drawing files, associated records and documentation.Complete project responsibilities within scope, budget and schedule.Provide timely technical assistance and solutions to the team.Participate in and actively supports quality projects, activities and Responsible Care initiatives to ensure that the Company achieves its goals.Provide a leadership/mentor role to our drafters.Required Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalentAssociate’s degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design or related field.Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.Hands-on experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software.Familiarity with 3D modeling tools.Preferred Qualifications:SolidWorks and MicroStation software experienceWork Environment & Schedule:Must comply with all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocolsOn-site work arrangement: 5 days a week, with the ability and availability to work overtime as operational needs require.Disclaimer:Please note the duties listed are not set forth for purposes of limiting the assignment of work.
