Job summary

United Integrated Services (UIS) is seeking a Fire Protection Drafter to generate accurate technical drawings and construction documents for our critical semiconductor projects. You’ll translate designs and field data into clear CAD drawings and collaborate across engineering, construction, and project management teams.

The role requires strong drafting skills, familiarity with fire protection systems (sprinklers, NFPA standards), and hands-on CAD experience.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certificate/associated degree in Drafting, CAD Technology, Architecture, Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or related field preferred.
  • 1–3+ years drafting experience.
  • Experience with fire protection systems design highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create and revise drawings using AutoCAD for fire protection layouts.
  • Incorporate redlines, field measurements, design changes, and project revisions.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects to interpret requirements and produce CAD models.
  • Maintain drawing sets, revision histories, and document-control standards.
  • Stay current with applicable codes and industry standards.
  • Meet drafting and project schedule deadlines.

Summary:

The Fire Protection Drafter is responsible for preparing accurate technical drawings, plans, and construction documents in support of our fire protection construction and project management teams. This position works closely with project managers, engineers, architects, field personnel, and other stakeholders to translate designs, specifications, and field information into clear and accurate drawings.

The ideal candidate has strong drafting and technical skills, a solid understanding of construction methods and terminology, and experience using computer-aided design software. Familiarity with fire protection systems such as Sprinkler, VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus), BDA (Bi-Directional Amplifier), and EST systems are preferred, with hands-on experience considered a strong advantage. Success in this role requires accuracy, organization, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to manage drawing revisions while meeting project deadlines.

  • Stay current with applicable code updates, industry standards, and emerging fire protection technologies.
  • Meet drafting and project schedule deadlines.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Certificate, associate degree, or technical training in Drafting, CAD Technology, Architecture, Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 1 - 3+ years of drafting experience.
  • Experience with fire protection systems design highly preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong drafting and visualization skills.
  • Ability to understand technical drawings and construction specifications.
  • Basic understanding of fire sprinkler systems, fire protection principles, and applicable codes and standards, including NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, NFPA 72, IBC, and IFC
  • Ability to accurately incorporate revisions and redlines for fire protection systems.
  • Good organizational and document-control skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a deadline-driven construction environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Proficiency in drafting and BIM software, including AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit.
  • Experience with fire protection design software such as AutoSPRINK, SprinkCAD, or similar platforms preferred.
  • Ability to create, modify, and coordinate Revit models for fire protection systems and participate in
  • High level of attention to detail, and highly organized.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize responsibilities depending on project needs. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and employees.
  • Ability to develop and maintain successful relationships with all levels of employees, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a professional attitude.
  • Ability to work in a construction site environment (trailer office).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to communicate in Mandarin, preferred.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license. May be required to travel to other sites within Arizona to perform certain work functions.

  • Indoor and/or outdoor work environments, which may include varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Work in confined spaces, elevated areas, or active job sites, depending on project requirements.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, and high-visibility vests.
  • Interaction with powered industrial equipment, tools, and vehicles.
