Chugach Government Solutions is seeking a Drafter/CAD Operator III for the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, LA. You will prepare complete drawing sets from engineers' sketches and models, using AutoCAD and related tools to produce detailed civil, structural, and electrical layouts.

Join a mission-focused team delivering complex facilities and equipment, coordinate with engineers and senior drafters, and ensure compliance with National CAD Standards.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Two years of relevant drafting or engineering training/education.
  • Four years of related experience in drafting/engineering.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD 2D; experience with 3D CAD and BIM tools is a plus.
  • U.S. Citizenship to obtain NASA badge.
  • English communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare complete drawing sets for Facility and STEs from sketches and specs.
  • Create civil/structural construction drawings per standards.
  • Layout plan, profile and detail appurtenances with multi-discipline designs.
  • Prepare and revise electrical, mechanical, civil, and structural design drawings.
  • Coordinate with Engineers and Senior Drafters.

Job Overview

The Drafter/CAD Operator III prepares complete sets of complex drawings which include multiple views, detail drawings, and assembly drawings. Works from sketches, models, and verbal information supplied by an engineer, architect, or designer to determine the most appropriate views, detail drawings, and supplementary information needed to complete assignments. Utilizes information from manufacturers' catalogs, and technical guides. Independently resolves most of the problems encountered. Supervisor or design originator may suggest methods of approach or provide advice on unusually difficult problems.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties:

  • Prepares complete sets of drawings of Facility and Special Test Equipment to be fabricated from layouts or sketches. Several cross-sectional and subassembly drawings are required. From information supplied by the design originator and from manuals, describes dimensions, tolerances, fits, fabrication techniques, and standard parts to use in fabricating the equipment and facilities.
  • From drafting standards and established practices, prepares civil and structural construction drawings, including but not limited to: navigation locks, bridges, culverts, levees, dikes and berms; prepares typical cross-sections, and land profiles; and delineates related topographical details as required.
  • From multi-discipline engineering designs, lays out plan, profile and detail appurtenances required; and notifies supervisor of conflicting details in design.
  • Prepares and revises detailed design drawings for such projects as the construction and installation of electrical, electronic equipment and plant wiring. Drawings typically include details of mountings, frames, guards, or other accessories; conduit layouts; or wiring diagrams indicating transformer sizes and conduit locations.
  • Draws base and elevation views, sections, and details of commercial and industrial structures; revises complete sets of site infrastructure and construction projects; or prepares block maps, indicating pipeline locations.
  • From marked-up prints, revises the original drawings of electrical, mechanical, civil and structural systems.
  • From sketches, generates a working drawing in adherence to the National CAD Standards.
  • Coordinates with and takes direction from Engineers and/or Senior Drafters.
Job Requirements

Mandatory:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Certification of two (2) years training from vocational training school or two (2) years of college with courses relevant to drafting or engineering principles preferred.
  • Four (4) years relevant experience related to shop and field engineering processes associated with mechanical, structural, electrical or architectural design.
  • Must demonstrate proficient experience and knowledge in operating and utilization of AutoCAD 2D; experience in AutoCad 3D, BIM/Revit, Civil 3D, or Creo-parametric a plus.
  • Additional relevant education may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain required NASA badge.
  • Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbal and written.
  • Must have, and maintain, a valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proficient in the use of standard MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and use of various office equipment.
  • Familiarity with design, construction, and engineering terminology is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to use resourcefulness in researching various documents and databases is required, as well as gathering various types of information or other resources.
  • Ability to coordinate and handle multiple activities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Dexterity to operate office equipment as required by the position.
