Job summary

Cityside Fiber is seeking an Engineer Drafter to join the Fiber Design Engineering team in Irvine, CA. The role focuses on field data collection and documentation to support accurate network designs and cost-effective FTTH fiber plans.

You will work with engineering and construction teams to ensure high-quality designs and field-accurate drawings. Qualifications include 3–5 years telecom field data experience, proficiency with MS Office/Adobe Acrobat/Google Earth, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; technical coursework a plus.
• 3–5 years telecom field data collection experience.
• Proficiency with MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Earth.
• Able to learn project management software quickly.
• Knowledge of telecom design standards and construction techniques.
• Basic make-ready construction understanding preferred.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to work independently in the field and communicate with internal teams.
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and terrain.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field surveys of aerial and underground utility infrastructure.
• Collect and document pole measurements, attachment heights, and clearances.
• Identify and classify utility poles while verifying violations.
• Create hand-drawn sketches and suggest designs from field observations.
• Photograph job sites and structures for reference.
• Upload and organize field data, images, and sketches in digital systems.
• Inspect underground facilities when required.
• Interact professionally with property owners and the public.
• Maintain vehicle and equipment to safety standards.
• Contribute to a culture of trust, integrity, and collaboration.

Cityside Fiber is seeking a motivated Engineer Drafter to join our Fiber Design Engineering team. This role is responsible for field data collection and documentation to support accurate network designs and plays a key part in creating cost-effective fiber plans for our FTTH projects. Success in this position requires strong attention to detail, technical aptitude, and communication skills, adaptability in outdoor field conditions, and the ability to work collaboratively with engineering and construction teams.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field surveys of aerial and underground utility infrastructure.
• Collect and document pole measurements, attachment heights, and clearances.
• Identify and classify utility poles while checking for violations.
• Create hand-drawn sketches and recommend engineering designs based on field observations.
• Photograph job sites and relevant structures for design reference.
• Upload and organize field data, images, and sketches in digital systems.
• Inspect underground facilities (hand holes, substructures) when required.
• Interface professionally with property owners and the public when needed.
• Maintain vehicle and equipment to company safety standards.
