Job description

DP2 Sports Dietitian
Position Purpose

The Dartmouth Peak Performance (DP2) Sports Dietitian provides comprehensive sports nutrition services to varsity student-athletes and teams, and to the wider undergraduate student body through the Teevens Center. This is an Athletics-based position that reports to the Director of Sports Nutrition, with a dotted line to the Teevens Center Director, and will contribute to advancing two key pillars:

  1. Elevating the competitiveness of Dartmouth Athletics
  2. DP2 for All – extending peak performance principles across campus
Required Qualifications – Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree plus 3‑5 years’ experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications – Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Bachelor of Science in Nutrition or a health‑related field.
  • At least three years of nutrition experience in a competitive athletic or tactical environment.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Licensed Dietitian in the state of New Hampshire within 30 days of hire.
  • Thorough knowledge of nutritional principles as they relate to athletic performance.
  • Knowledge of clinical nutrition and best practices in care for disordered eating.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to adapt to a range of stakeholders and a diverse population.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage student workers and volunteers.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively as part of a larger nutrition and integrated support team (IST).
  • Strong time‑management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities concurrently.
  • Ability to work a non‑standard week that may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in nutrition, exercise science or a related field.
  • Board‑certified specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD).
  • Previous nutrition experience at an NCAA Division I institution.
Key Accountabilities
Varsity Athletics – Individual and Team Performance Nutrition (50%)
  • Provide individual education and counseling for varsity student athletes on optimal nutrition for training, competition, travel, recovery, weight management, hydration, supplementation, and immunity, translating the latest scientific evidence into practical recommendations.
  • Develop educational materials, presentations, and learning opportunities for student athletes, performance staff, coaches, and teams on the above topics.
  • Work with coaches and operations personnel to identify and meet specific team nutritional needs for training and competition, such as on‑site fueling options and sourcing, travel snacks, timing and sourcing of team meals, and menu development.
  • Collaborate with the DP2 Director of Sports Nutrition to ensure services reflect best practices and align with departmental and DP2 goals.
Dartmouth Peak Performance Integrated Support Team (10%)
  • Participate as part of the DP2 interdisciplinary performance team to align efforts to support the holistic health, wellness, and development of student athletes.
  • Collaborate with primary care clinicians/counselors, sports medicine, and athletics staff on the identification and proper clinical care for nutrition issues related to medical concerns such as disordered eating, diabetes, hypertension, lipid disorders, digestive diseases, food allergies, and more.
Collaboration & Operations (10%)
  • Work with stakeholders across Athletics, the Teevens Center, and Campus & Community Life to align programming and maximize impact.
  • Track participation and engagement metrics to inform continuous improvement.
  • Support communications (website, social media, print) to highlight programs and outcomes, and track and document nutrition programming, services, and outcomes for continuous improvement and to maximize impact on performance outcomes.
  • Demonstrate and maintain detailed knowledge of NCAA, Ivy League, Dartmouth College, and departmental rules and regulations.
Teevens Center – DP2 for All Programming & Student Engagement (30%)
  • Adapt and deliver group nutrition programming for club sport student athletes and the wider Dartmouth student community.
  • Develop embedded learning experiences and peer‑led initiatives.
  • Coordinate with campus partners (e.g., Rockefeller Center, Student Life, Wellness Center) for scheduling, logistics, and program integration.
  • Design and conduct pilot programs with built‑in assessment measures, using evaluation data to refine and enhance offerings.
  • Support communications and event promotion through digital and print channels.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and collegiality through actions, interactions, and communications with others appropriate to an environment that is welcoming to all.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
